Manga Meen Curry. This recipe for meen manga curry is a slight variation from the Alleppey Fish Curry that I have shared before. The delicious tang that mangoes impart into the sauce makes this dish so good. Also with ginger and coconut, it just gets better.
Meen manga curry is something that Mummy (Jose's mom) makes very often.
At my place, Kudampuli rules, so it's always Meen Vevichathu.
I love the combination of the sourness from raw mango, sweetness from the coconut milk and the spiciness from chili powder.
You can cook Manga Meen Curry using 15 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook that.
Ingredients of Manga Meen Curry

You need 500 gm of sea fish pieces.

You need 1 of raw Mango peeled, cored and sliced.

You need 2 tbsp of Coconut oil.

You need 2 sprig of Curry Leaves.

It’s 1 inch of Ginger grated.

You need 1/4 tsp of Mustard Seeds.

You need 1/2 cup of grated Coconut.

It’s 1/4 tsp of Fenugreek Seeds.

You need 1-2 of Green Chillies slit.

It’s 1 of small Tomato finely chopped.

Prepare 8-10 of Shallots chopped.

You need 1/2 tsp of Turmeric.

It’s 1 tbsp of Red Chilli powder.

Prepare 1 tsp of Coriander powder.

It’s to taste of Salt.
This is a deadly flavour base to cook the fish.
Manga Meen Curry is a traditional styled dish, very popular in Kerala Cuisine.

Manga Meen Curry instructions

Grind coconut with little water to form paste, keep it aside.

Heat oil in earthen vessel, splutter mustard seeds,add fenugreek seeds, allow to change colour.

Add ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and saute for few seconds.

Add shallots and saute until its soft. Add tomato and saute for few seconds Mix all spice powders with 1/4 cup water. Add spice water to shallots with salt.

Saute until tomatoes turn soft. Add sliced raw mango with 1 cup water. Bring to boil. Add ground coconut paste with 1/2 cup water and mix well. The tangy flavour of curry depends on sourness of raw mango.

Add fish pieces and gently mix. Simmer and cook for 10-12 minutes. Drizzle 1 tsp coconut oil. Switch off. Leave it aside for 15 minutes to allow the flavour to set in well. Serve hot with rice.
