Anchovies Fish Curry/Nethili Meen Kuzhambu. Nethili meen kuzhambu is my husband all time favorite. This kerala style fish curry not only taste amazing but is super easy to make as well. Meen Vevichathu is what it is called in kerala.

Fish curry was always a staple food back home as we get fresh fish any time in the local market but in Bangalore I have to wait for the weekends or some occasions to get some good fish for cooking.

Ingredients of Anchovies Fish Curry/Nethili Meen Kuzhambu

  1. You need 500 grams of Achovies Fish.

  2. It’s 5 tbspn of gingely oil.

  3. It’s 1 of tspn fenugreek seeds.

  4. It’s 1 tsp of mustard seeds.

  5. You need 1/2 tsp of urad dhal.

  6. You need 10 of garlic cloves.

  7. You need 2 of spring curry leaves.

  8. It’s 10 of shallots/1 onion (chopped).

  9. It’s 1 of tomato (chopped).

  10. You need 2 of green chillies (slit).

  11. You need 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  12. Prepare 1 tsp of red chilli powder.

  13. You need 1 tbspn of coriander powder.

  14. It’s 2 tbsp of mixed curry masala/kuzhambu podi.

  15. You need To taste of salt.

  16. Prepare 2 tbspn of coriander leaves (chopped).

  17. It’s of To grind.

  18. Prepare 2 of onions.

  19. It’s 2 of tomatoes.

  20. It’s 1 tbspn of cumin seeds.

Nethili Fish Curry or Nethili Meen Kuzhambu is a traditional fish curry that is native to the south eastern districts for Tamilnadu.

It is cooked in native clay pots generally. "Nethili" known as Anchovies fish in English is a tiny fish regularly available in Indian Coasts and it is consumed both as a curry as well as a fry.

Nethili Meen Kuzhambu is an authentic South Indian fish curry loved by all sea-food lovers.

Anchovies Fish Curry/Nethili Meen Kuzhambu instructions

  1. Clean fish at least twice in turmeric water and set aside. Soak tamarind in 1 cup water. Keep all ingredients ready..

  2. In a blender add ingredients to grind and blend to coarse paste. Set aside..

  3. Heat gingely oil in a wide pan, add fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds after it cracks add urad dhal..

  4. Next add the garlic curry leaves and onion..

  5. Add green chillies, tomato and the ground paste. Saute till raw smell disappears..

  6. Next add the spices, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and mixed curry masala. Saute till oil separates from the pan..

  7. Add salt(Ive used rock salt) and tamarind water. Adjust water accordingly. Cover and cook for 10 minutes..

  8. Once it starts boiling add the cleaned fish and cook for 5 minutes. Dont stir after adding the fish it will break. Garnish with coriander leaves..

Whenever we say Nethili Meen , lot of people will have mouth watering feeling.

The authentic preparation of this gravy is unique and it tastes spicy and delicious, blended with tangy flavor.

Also this is a heart healthy dish and a favorite of all those who don't prefer to eat fatty fishes like Seer Fish.
