Greengrams(ndengu) #festiveseasoncontestkakamega #authormarathon. How to Cook a Tasty Ndengu (Green Grams) Stew. Hello friends, today we'll get into the kitchen, and the person taking us to the kitchen is my fellow writer, mom and friend -Tricia Wanjala. I got some Pre-Cooked green grams samples from Nairobean.

Green grams are beans, which means they belong to the family of legumes that includes other common beans like kidney beans (madondo), black beans (njahi) etc.

However, I discovered Ndengu, which is the Kenyan-style of mung beans, also called green grams.

  1. Sort out your greengrams and clean then boil until tender..

  2. After 1hour it should be ready and if its not to your liking give it 10 to 20 more. For me I like them overcooked and the soup is is milky..

  3. In a sufuria fry your onions, garlic, ginger and tumeric until they start to brown (I used tumeric roots not the powder).

  4. Add in your tomatoes, salt and let them cook until they are tender and juicy..

  5. Add in the preboiled greengrams and stir..

  6. Pour in a cup of milk, stir and let it simmer for 5 more minutes..

  7. Your stew is ready, put out the fire and let it rest for a minute..

  8. Serve with soft layered chapatis and sauteed cabbage. Enjoy 😋😋.

They taste rather good and are filling.

Like many dishes in Kenya this one has a strong Indian influence.
