Maharashtrian Masale Bhat or Masala Bhat is a one pot recipe made using long grain rice (Basmati), fresh veggies and Indian spices.

Ingredients of Masale bhat

  1. You need 1 cup of rice.

  2. You need 2 of potatoes.

  3. You need 7-8 of florets of cauliflower.

  4. Prepare 3-4 of green chillies.

  5. It’s 1 inch of ginger.

  6. It’s 1 of small tomato.

  7. It’s 2 tbsp of oil.

  8. Prepare 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds.

  9. You need 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  10. Prepare 1/2 tsp of red chilly powder.

  11. It’s 1 tbsp of goda masala(special masala from Maharashtra).

  12. You need 1 tbsp of dhania(coriander powder).

  13. It’s 1 tsp of cumin powder.

  14. Prepare 1/2 cup of curd.

  15. It’s To taste of Salt.

  16. You need 1/2 tsp of sugar.

  17. It’s of Oil for deep frying.

  18. It’s 2 cups of water.

  19. Prepare of Fresh green coriander.

  20. You need 1 tbsp of grated dry coconut.

Masale Bhat Recipe This is one of the most famous recipe of Maharashtra, the taste, the aroma of spices and the spiciness of spices makes it a perfect dish for having in lunch or you can also give it to the lunch boxes as well.

Mint or green chutney and raita goes perfect with this rice dish as I like to have them with boondi raita which makes its taste more good.

Masale bhat step by step

  1. Wash rice twice and drain water with strainer. Keep aside..

  2. Now cut potatoes in 8 parts. Make tomato, chilly and ginger paste..

  3. In a pan add 1tsp oil and add rice. Fry for 2-3 mins. Keep aside..

  4. Deep-fry potatoes/ cauliflower. Keep aside..

  5. In a Pressure cooker add Oil. Add mustard seeds, add chilli ginger paste when crackling of mustard seeds stops. Fry for 2 mins. Add Potatoes/ cauliflower..

  6. Fry for another min and add turmeric powder, chilli powder, goda masala. Now add rice. Mix all ingredients properly..

  7. Now in a separate bowl add coriander powder and cumin powder with curd. Add this to rice and stir for a min..

  8. Add salt and sugar. Add hot water. Close the leed.cook for 5 more minutes after two whistles..

  9. Enjoy your masala bhaat with matha (butter milk). Serving suggestion. Add grated coconut and fresh coriander on top of masala bhaat. Serve hot..
