Ofe oha. Oha Soup, popularly referred to as Ofe Oha by the Igbo people of Eastern Nigeria is an absolutely delicious traditional soup recipe. Oha soup isn't exactly a go-to kind of soup because the main ingredient, Oha leaves, is a seasonal one. My aunt sorts out the best and uses it for oha soup on the day the oha leaves arrive, then the other not so fresh oha she sets aside to use for ofe onu mmuo.

It is one of those native Igbo soups that you taste and just can't forget.

This rich and nutritious soup is usually prepared with the leaves of the African Pterocarpus soyauxii / Pterocarpus mildbraedi tree, known traditionally as Oha leaves.

Oha soup or Ora soup is another popular delicacy from the eastern part of Nigeria.

You can have Ofe oha using 11 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Ofe oha

  1. You need leaf of Oha/ora.

  2. It’s of Meat.

  3. You need of Cow stripes.

  4. You need of Thickner(ashi,ofo,cocoyam paste).

  5. It’s of Cameron pepper.

  6. Prepare of Crayfish.

  7. Prepare of Stock fish.

  8. You need of fish.

  9. Prepare of Smoked fish.

  10. Prepare of Maggi and salt.

  11. Prepare of Uziza leaf (optional).

Preparation of this soup is similar to bitterleaf soup ( Ofe Onugbu ) with difference being the leaves used.

Oha/ora soup is delicious and has a distinct taste.

Ofe Oha - Ingredients & Preparation.

Oha Soup is a native meal for the South Eastern part of Nigeria, Though also called Ora by some southern people.

Ofe oha step by step

  1. Boil meat,with cow stripes and stock fish.spice with maggi and salt.

  2. Wash and debone smoked and dry fish, set aside..

  3. Pick oha /ora leaf and uziza leaf,wash and set aside.

  4. When meat is tender,u can either remove the meat frm the stock or leave with the stock.add more water to the level of soup you want to prepare, add crayfish,cameron pepper,smoked and dry fish and palm oil and cover to cook for 5 mins..

  5. Add thickner(achi, ofo or cocoyam paste).cover and cook some more..

  6. Taste for salt and pepper.

  7. Add uziza leaf,then oha /ora leaf.cover and cook for 5 mins.

  8. Serve with desired swallow.

Because I seem to know how to cook all their soups. their words not mine.

I know a few friends and relatives who will disagree, but these are the same people who don't like to hear me say, I can marry a White man you know, in a lot of ways we share the same.
