Recipe: Tasty Yam porridge Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Yam porridge. Yam Porridge can also be referred to as yam soup. It is mainly yam cooked with ingredients and the resulting dish contains some soupy liquid. It is usually not cooked with added vegetables but I always add a little to add some green colour to the meal (see video).

It's a one-pot dish that consists of African yam and a pepper/tomato blend.

Very few ingredients yet the flavour is simply amazing.

The yam used in this recipe is a variety called puna yam.

  8. Prepare of Tomatoes.

Yam porridge or Asaro is another delicious Nigerian yam dish cooked in a well-seasoned pepper mix until soft and fluffy with some yam chunks.

It is very quick and easy to make.

It makes a perfect dinner or lunch and it is also a party favourite.

Yam porridge step by step

  1. Peel and wash your yam.

  2. Fried palm oil with onions,grind your tomatoes paste with pepper,add Maggi, salt,spices add your wash dried fish,and fried for 5mins.

  3. Add your water and leave to boil make sure the water can cover the yam,add your ya then add your chicken,meat or fish..

  4. Allow to cook till soft and do not allow all the water dried,and it should be thicken as is done..

  5. Serve.garnish with green bell pepper.

Yam porridge is the combination of fresh Puna yam and tomato sauce.

It's mostly enjoyed by most countries in West Africa especially Nigeria.

Most people prefer to have their yam porridge/ Pottage garnish with some fresh leafy greens like spinach, scent leaves, and Kale for more nutritional value and taste while some people prefer to have it.

A hot plate of yam porridge with acceptable obstructions such as ugba and dry fish, make the heart merry.

This is a delicious and balanced meal with good fibre from the yam, protein from the fish and take a chance to load up on some vegetables.
