How to Autumn Tasty Chow-chow Puli kootu (Gravy) Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Chow-chow Puli kootu (Gravy). The freshly ground coconut masala adds a beautiful flavour to the kootu. The addition of pepper, cumin and red chillies gives the kootu the right amount of spice. Chayote squash is a healthy vegetable containing highest content of water.

Serve it with roti or rice to make it a complete meal.

Wash and peel the skin of chayote.

You can cook Chow-chow Puli kootu (Gravy) using 9 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Chow-chow Puli kootu (Gravy)

  1. It’s 2 of chow-chow.

  2. Prepare 1 tsp of tamarind paste,.

  3. It’s 1 tsp of salt,.

  4. You need 1 tsp of dhaniya powder,.

  5. You need of red chilli powder.

  6. Prepare 1tsp of perungayam powder.

  7. You need of urad dal.

  8. Prepare 1 cup of grated coconut,.

  9. It’s 1 bunch of curry leaves,.

This releases a sap or sticky latex,so use gloves or peel and wash under running water.

Chop in medium sized pieces.keep aside.

Chow chow kootu (Chayote in English) is one my most favorite kootu recipes.

Basically chow chow is a vegetable with rich water content.

  1. First cut the vegetable after peeling the skin..

  2. In a pan add the vegetable and water then add all other ingradients. cook for 10 minutes, then add the grated coconut..

  3. In a pan add oil, allow mustard to crack and add urad dal curry leaves. Add this kootu..

  4. Chow-chow kootu is ready to taste..

It doesn't have any particular smell or taste.

Generally we Tamil people make this chow chow kootu at least once in a week in our regular lunch menu.

Its a good side dish for vatha kuzhambu and puli kulambu.
