Thahira's father was a Quran scholar in Vridhachalam, Tamilnadu.
Their house was inside the Town Juma Palli Vaasal (Masjid) compound.

You need of Raw rice.

Thahira remembers the Ramadan season very vividly.
Ramadan nombu kanji recipe consists of rice, lentils, meat and mixed vegetables.
It's a very simple preparation, very easy to prepare and also takes less time to make it.
As I was preparing this dish the whole house was filled with the aroma of this dish and I felt like I was cooking biryani.

Wash raw rice and Moong dall, grind together and keep aside..

Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add spices to temper.

Add ginger garlic paste, onion, green chilli saute it untill onion turns transparent in colour..

Add chopped carrot, tomato beans,cabbage and saute it well.

Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder,masala powder..

Add chicken saute it untill cooked.

Then add rice and Moong dal.

Add water and pressure cook for 5 to 6 whistles or until mushy.Once pressure releases open and mash it well..

Heat it again and add little more water if its too thick, then add coconut milk, garnish with coiriander leaves and switch off the flame.

Serve hot or warm very very yummy dish.
Nombu Kanji / Gruel is prepared during the Islamic Month of Ramadan.
It is a well known Iftar Meal usually taken after breaking fast. "In India almost everybody stops to rejoice for a few minutes following the iftar sirens and adhan.
Preparations for iftar commence hours before, in homes and at roadside stalls.
Yummy Nombu Kanji made using Seeraga samba rice, spices, onions, tomatoes, garlic, and vegetables called Biryani Nombu Kanji. சைவ நோன்பு கஞ்சி means Vegetarian Nombu Kanji in Tamil.
This porridge is as healthy as Kambu Koozh and Pazhaya Sadham.
