It tastes amazing when served with Kara bhoondi ,potato chips or papad. Bisi bele bath is a very popular breakfast/lunch recipe from Karnataka(South India).

The name bisi bele bath is a Kannada phrase, which means "hot lentil rice".

In Kannada, bisi means hot, bele means lentil, and bath means a dish made of rice.

Ingredients of Quinoa-rice bisi bele bath

  1. You need 1 cup of Basmati rice.

  2. Prepare 1/2 cup of Quinoa.

  3. You need 1 cup of arhar dal/toor dal.

  4. Prepare 2-2-1/2 tbsp of Sambhar masala.

  5. You need 2-2-1/2 tbsp of salt.

  6. Prepare 1 tbsp of fresh shredded turmeric / 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder.

  7. It’s 1 tbsp of Garam masala powder.

  8. You need 2 tbsp of Urad dal.

  9. You need 2 tbsp of Chana dal.

  10. It’s 1/2 tbsp of Cumin seeds.

  11. It’s 3-4 of Dry red chillies.

  12. It’s 10-12 of Black pepper corns.

  13. Prepare 2 of Cloves.

  14. You need 1/4 cup of shredded fresh coconut.

  15. Prepare 4-5 of Shallots / small onion.

  16. Prepare 1 of Tomato big chopped.

  17. Prepare 7-8 of long cut french beans.

  18. You need 2 of Carrots cut into bite size.

  19. You need 1/2 cup of Peas.

  20. You need 1 piece of Brinjal small cubed.

  21. It’s 1/2 of Capsicum chopped.

  22. It’s 1/4 of small pumpkin cutted in small cubes.

  23. Prepare 1 cup of Coconut milk.

  24. It’s 1/2 cup of Tamarind pulp.

  25. You need 8-10 of Cashews broken.

  26. Prepare 1/2 tbsp of black mustard seeds.

  27. You need 1/4 tsp of Asafoetida.

  28. You need 3-4 tbsp of Clarified butter/desi ghee.

  29. Prepare 1 spring of Curry leaves.

  30. You need 1/2 cup of Coriander/cilantro leaves for garnishing.

One day I wanted to cook bisi bele bath but wanted to try it with quinoa as we got adopted to quinoa taste. as we are use to quinoa taste couldn't find much difference in the taste.

Quinoa and dal make this a protein rich meal.

Bisi bele bath should be watery,but once cooled they will turn thick.

Quinoa-rice bisi bele bath step by step

  1. Firstly wash &soak rice,quinoa and toor dal in water in seprate-seprate bowls fo at least 30 minutes.

  2. Heat clarified butter/desi ghee in a heavy bottom non stick frying pan and roast urad dal, chana dal and dry red chillies at low heat till the aroma of roasted dal rise and get light golden..keep the roasted ingredients aside in a plate.

  3. In a pressure cooker heat clarified butter /ghee and splutter cumin then add shallets/onion and saute them till light brownish, add shredded turmeric/turmeric powder, all the chopped veggies one by one and fry on medium heat..add fried urad &chana dal, rice, quinoa, arhar/toor dal..pour 5-6cups of water..add salt,Sambhar masala, spoon of ghee and pressure cook till 3-4whistles..heat off and let the pressure cooker to release its pressure itself.

  4. Open the pressure cooker and give a good mix to dal, rice-quinoa and veggies to combine everything very well..add tamarind pulp, check the consistency of bisi bele bath and add little more water if required..add coconut milk then let it to simmer fo about 10 minutes at slow flame..add garam masala, mix and heat off.

  5. Yor quinoa-rice bisi bele bath is done.

  6. In a frying pan fry fresh coconut and peas in a spoon of ghee and mix in the bisi bele bath..keep a spoon of fried peas aside fo garnishing.

  7. Tempering :-Heat clarified butter /ghee in a tadka pan and splutter mustard seeds then add asafoetida, curry leaves,black pepper corns, cloves,coriander/cilantro and lightly fry all ingredients.

  8. Fry cashews in the same tadka pan.

  9. Transfer the bisi bele bath in a casserole /bowl/plate, add tadka, give a nice mix.

  10. Garnish with fried cashews and serve hot with curd,pickled beets,pickled carrot &cucumber or as u wish.

  11. Enjoy a healthier, tastier overall complete meal.
