Fish is one of the favorite sea foods at home and most times it is the fish fry or the pepper fish that is made as they are quick to make.

Ingredients of Fish curry

  1. You need 500 gm of rohu fish.

  2. It’s 1 of potato.

  3. You need 1 of tomato.

  4. Prepare 3-4 tbsp of onion ginger garlic paste.

  5. It’s 2 cups of mustard oil.

  6. You need 1 tbsp of mustard seeds.

  7. Prepare 1 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  8. Prepare 1 tbsp of Coriander powder.

  9. It’s 1 tsp of Cumin powder.

  10. Prepare 1 tsp of Red chilli powder.

  11. It’s as per taste of Salt.

  12. You need 2 cups of water.

  13. It’s as needed of Chopped coriander leaves.

I rarely make fish curry at home in Singapore as we do not like the taste of the variety we get here.

They are good to make fish fry or roast but do not taste good.

Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary.

Serve the curry with rice in warmed serving bowls, sprinkled with toasted desiccated coconut, if using.

Fish curry instructions

  1. Clean the fish and marinate it with 2 tbsp of turmeric powder and 1 tbsp of red chilli powder,2 tbsp of mustard oil and salt as per taste for 10-15 mins..

  2. Heat oil in a pan, deep fry the fish pieces until it became golden brown colour on both sides. It will take 2-3 min on each side. Take out the fish pieces and keep it aside..

  3. Now keep the excess oil in a jar so that you can use further..

  4. Heat 2 -3 tbsp of mustard oil again on that pan. Add mustard seeds and let it crackle. Now add onion ginger garlic paste. And sauté it for 3-4 min until oil starts separating from the masala..

  5. Add 1 tbsp of turmeric powder, 2 tbsp of red chilli powder, 1 and 2 tbsp of cumin and coriander powder respectively. Mix it well..

  6. Add 1 chopped tomato and add salt as per taste. Now add 4 pieces of potato also. Mix it well for 2 minutes then add little bit of water. again mix it well..

  7. Add 1 cup of water and cover it for 15 min on low medium flame, now add fried fish. Stir it for a min cover it for 2 min then add 1 and half cup of water..

  8. Let it simmer for another 6-10 min then add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame. There you go fish curry is ready..

It really doesn't get easier than this.

All you need is a good fish, curry powder and a few other pantry staples like oil, salt, pepper, etc.

I'd love to say that the secret to this curry is my homemade curry powder, but I don't want to scare you away.
