  1. It’s 6 pieces of hilsa fish.

  2. It’s 1 1/2 cup of gobindobhog rice.

  3. Prepare 1 cup of yellow lentils or Moong daal,dry roasted.

  4. You need 1/2 cup of Red lentils or masoor daal.

  5. It’s 1 of " cinnamon stick.

  6. Prepare 5-6 of nos green cardamom.

  7. You need 1 of nos bay leaf.

  8. Prepare 2 of nos whole dry red chilli.

  9. It’s 1 of big onion, sliced.

  10. It’s 1/2 tsp of garlic paste.

  11. It’s 1/2 tsp of ginger paste.

  12. It’s 2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  13. You need 1 tsp of red chilli powder.

  14. You need 6-7 of nos green chillies, split.

  15. Prepare 3 tsp of salt or as per taste.

  16. Prepare 1/4 tsp of sugar.

  17. It’s 4 tbsp of mustard oil.

  18. Prepare 1/4 tsp of clarified butter/ghee.

  19. Prepare 4 1/2 cup of boiling water.

Hilsa vuna khichdi (in Bengali style) instructions

  1. Soak and wash rice and two types of lentils, drain it properly..

  2. Marinate fish for 5-10 minutes with little salt, turmeric and red chilli powder,heat oil in a pan till it reaches its smoke point,and slightly fry both sides of the fish, keep it aside..

  3. In same oil,add bay leaf, whole dry red chilli, cinnamon, green cardamom,let it crackle, then add sliced onion,fry it till translucent..

  4. Add garlic, ginger paste, sugar,red chilli powder, turmeric,cook it till oil separate..

  5. Add rice, lentils,salt and clarified butter/ ghee, cook it for couple of minutes..

  6. Now add boiling water, keep it on high flame for 2 minutes, cover with lid and keep in low flame for 8-9 minutes or till water evaporates a bit..

  7. Put off the flame,open the cover and scoop out half khichdi,then arrange the fish pieces as shown below..

  8. Now place the rest of the khichdi over the arranged fish,add splits green chillies, again cook it in low flame for 5-7 minutes after air-sealing the pan..

  9. Serve hot and enjoy..
