The name 'efo' means vegetables, hence it is a Yoruba rich vegetable soup. Efo Riro needs no introduction as it's one of the most popular vegetable soups in Nigeria and an absolute favourite of the Yorubas.

Even though the old recipe is good as it is, I have updated it a bit and I can tell you that this efo riro.
You can cook Efo riro(ugwu) using 8 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.

You need 1/2 cup of palmoil.

It’s 1 of medium size onions.

Prepare of Iru(locust beans).

You need of Crayfish.

You need of Fried chicken.

You need of Blended pepper (rodo,tatashe).

It’s of Salt.

It’s of Maggi.
No the ugwu isn't tough for efo riro at all especially since it's being combined with green.
Infact Once you are done, it'd end up being soft.
I used a blender to puree the pepper and that requires water and boiling the pepper is to ensure whatever water i must have added evaporates. if you grind the pepper without a blender i.e with a grinding.

Get your ingredients ready.

Put the palm oil in a dry pot,on medium heat,after its hot a little,saute the onions for about a minute..

The add your rinsed and stone free locust beans and saute slightly until it starts to give a nice smell.

Then add your blended pepper and stir. Cover and let it simmer for about 2 minutes..

After 2 min, add your salt,Maggi and any other spice you want to use and stir. Then add your fried chicken and crayfish (not Grounded),then cover and let it boil a little..

Then add your already chopped and rinsed ugwu(do not wash with hot water because it removes the nutrients), cover and let simmer before steering..

After it simmer,then steer.leave for another 20seconds.Then its ready to serve.

Serve with your favorite swallow or rice..
