Eforiro(Vegetable Soup). Efo Riro Recipe is a very popular Yoruba soup in Nigeria, it is one of my favorite Nigerian soups because of its health benefits. The name 'efo' means vegetables, hence it is a Yoruba rich vegetable soup. Spice up your lunch or dinner with this delectable vegetable soup (efo riro).

Our Efo-Riro is made the authentic way with greens cooked in a spicy pepper sauce with an assortment of seafood; crayfish, dry fish, beef shank, tripe and tendon.

  2. You need of Iru(Locust Beans).

  3. You need of Cow leg.

  4. It’s of Goat meat.

Even though the old recipe is good as it is, I have updated it a bit and I can tell you that this efo riro.

In this video, I am showing you how to make Efo-riro, a type of Vegetable Soup that originates from the western part of Nigeria.

Efo Riro is a traditional Vegetable Soup of the Yoruba Tribe in Nigeria.

Eforiro(Vegetable Soup) step by step

  1. Wash your meat &boil with seasoning, salt,onoins,water & when its cooked.drain the water from the meat & set aside..

  2. Wash & blend your onions,tomatoes & pepper when you are done drain the water from the pepper,tomatoes & onions & set aside.

  3. Put your pot on the fire allow to dry & pour your palm oil enough to cook the soup do not bleach the oil,allow to warm &pour in your washed Iru(locust beans) &fry.when that is done pour in your drained pepper,tomatoes & onions &add seasoning and salt to taste,add your boiled meat,washed fish,kpomo and allow to cook for about 10-15mins & add your washed drained spinach &stir.its ready to serve.

It is well known for its savory taste and richness.

It is actually the Yoruba version of the Efik's Edikang Ikong Soup, but with a big twist ☺.

Efo riro as this vegetable soup is natively called in Yoruba literally translates to 'vegetable stir ' (where 'efo' translates to 'vegetable' and 'riro' translates to 'stir') and is indicative of how this soup is traditionally made.

While it is natively called a vegetable soup, the style of preparation has more in common.
