How to Best Tasty Efo Riro Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Efo Riro. Efo Riro is a rich vegetable soup that is native to the Yorubas of Western Nigeria. The vegetables that can be used to cook this soup are Efo Shoko or Efo Tete (Green Amaranth). If these are not readily available where you live, leafy or frozen spinach is a very good substitute.

Efo riro is derived from the Yoruba language in Nigeria.

Efo Riro means mixed Vegetables, it is from the Western part of Nigeria and the Calabar's has a similar soup called "Edikaikong Soup".

Efo Riro is enjoyed by many, you can also use various option of Leaf such as Shokoyokoto Efotete "green amaranth" popularly known as Green e.t.c.

You can have Efo Riro using 13 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Efo Riro

  1. You need of Green leaf (efo).

  2. Prepare of Atarodo.

  3. You need of Tatashi.

  4. It’s of Sombo.

  5. Prepare of Onions.

  6. You need of Red oil.

  7. You need of Dry fish.

  8. You need of Crayfish.

  9. You need of Assorted meat.

  10. It’s of Stockfish.

  11. You need of kpomo.

  12. It’s of Iru.

  13. It’s cube of Seasoning.

Efo Riro is a Yoruba word and it loosely means 'stirred spinach'.

In Nigeria, the vegetables used for Efo Riro are 'Efo Shoko' (Lagos spinach) or 'Efo Tete' (African spinach).

These are the local spinach varieties that are very popular and easily available.

In other parts of the world, any spinach greens will do.

Efo Riro instructions

  1. Blend atarodo,onions, tatashi, sombo together, cook till the water dries up. See it aside.

  2. Set 2 cooking spoon full of red oil on heat, bleach a bit and immediately add your pepper mix; Stir and add iru. Add all meat including kpomo and dried fish.

  3. Add meat stock and stir, add maggi cube and stir..

  4. Add the already washed and sliced vegetables. Stir, taste for Salt and bring it down..
