Owo soup. Owo is a traditional soup/sauce, native to the south - southern region of Nigerian(Benin-Bini, Urhobo, Delta, Itsekhiri, Ijaw, Isoko). It is a popular soup with a few variations, from different tribes. Owo soup is more like a palm oil sauce, why it is called a soup, I am still scratching my head about it.

Description Traditional Benin soup cooked and served in earthenware pots and serve as accompaniment to boiled yam or plantain.

Owo soup is a native Urhobo and Benin recipe you are sure to enjoy.

You can cook Owo soup using 10 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Owo soup

  1. You need of Native potash.

  2. You need of Maggi.

  3. You need of Kpomo.

  4. You need of Beef.

  5. It’s of Dryfish.

  6. It’s of Starch.

  7. You need of Native salt.

  8. It’s of Crayfish.

  9. Prepare of Pepper.

  10. Prepare of Native oil.

Hence, owo soup is not the best food for weight loss and can be extremely fattening.

I am not saying that you can't eat owo soup if you want to lose weight, but eating very little.

The Beni Owo soup is a traditional soup of the Southern region of Nigeria.

It is a delicacy enjoyed by the people of Benin, Delta, Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko.

Owo soup step by step

  1. Boil the meat and dryfish and pomo too.

  2. Add enough water then put the crayfish and pepper.

  3. Taste that the seasoning is okay and add the palm oil and let it boil.

  4. Mix the starch in water and put aside.

  5. Add native salt and potash to the meat stock.

  6. Then mix the starch and water into the pot until the soup is thick.

  7. Let it boil for some time and put down.

Urhobo Owo soup is usually yellow, hence people calling Starch & Owo, Yellow & Yellow.

Also, when done, all of the oil should be gone.

I noticed yours has a bit of oil showing still.

You can use less oil or add more keun/potash to avoid that.
