How to Special Eating on a Dime Fasting thali Delicious, fresh and tasty.

I make my Fasting thali for my hubby who keep Fasting every Navratri.jai mata di Maha Shivaratri Upvaas/Fasting Thali Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in honor of Lord Shiva.

On this auspicious day, devotees perform Abhishekam to the Shivalingam(An abstract representation of Lord Shiva).

Inspite of being originally a Keralite , I have always had a greater affinity towards North Indian festivals owing to being brought up in the national capital of India.

You can have Fasting thali using 61 ingredients and 27 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Fasting thali

  1. Prepare of For Rajgiri puri.

  2. It’s 1 cup of Rajgiri flour.

  3. You need 2 of boiled peeled grated potatoes.

  4. It’s 1 pinch of salt.

  5. It’s 1 pinch of Black pepper powder.

  6. You need of Water to knead the dough.

  7. It’s of Oil for frying.

  8. You need of For loki tamatar ki sabji.

  9. Prepare 1 bottle of guard.

  10. Prepare 2 of tomato.

  11. Prepare to taste of sendha namak Salt.

  12. You need 1 teaspoon of Red kashmiri chilli powder.

  13. You need 1 tsp of coriander powder.

  14. Prepare 1 tbsp of coriander chopped.

  15. You need 2 tablespoon of oil.

  16. It’s of For sabudana kheer.

  17. It’s 250 ml of milk.

  18. Prepare 1/2 cup of soaked drained sabudana.

  19. It’s of Dry nuts.

  20. It’s of Pistachios sliced.

  21. You need of Almonds sliced.

  22. It’s of Cashewnuts sliced.

  23. It’s of Raisins green.

  24. Prepare 3/4 cup of sugar or as per sweetness.

  25. It’s of For cucumber raita.

  26. Prepare 1 cup of curd not sour.

  27. You need 1/2 of cucumber peeled and finally chopped.

  28. You need 1 teaspoon of cumin powder.

  29. Prepare to taste of Salt.

  30. Prepare of For sabudana tikki.

  31. Prepare 1 cup of sabudana washed and soaked.

  32. You need 2 of potatoes boiled peeled and grated.

  33. You need 1 tsp of black pepper powder.

  34. It’s of Oil for shallow frying.

  35. You need to taste of Salt.

  36. Prepare of Fresh coriander chopped.

  37. Prepare 1 tbsp of roasted crushed peanuts.

  38. Prepare of For potatoes tikki.

  39. It’s 2 of boiled peeled grated potatoes.

  40. Prepare of Sendha namak as per taste.

  41. It’s of Green chilli chopped.

  42. You need 1 tbsp of fasting corn flour..I got it in Indian store.

  43. Prepare of Coriander chopped.

  44. Prepare of For lassi.

  45. It’s 1 cup of mild curd.

  46. You need 1 cup of water.

  47. You need 1 tsp of Cumin powder.

  48. It’s of Salt to taste I used sendha namak.

  49. It’s of For veggies samo rice.

  50. Prepare 1/2 cup of samo rice washed and soaked fir 1/2an hour.

  51. Prepare of Veggies I used.

  52. Prepare 1 of carrot peeled and chopped in cubes.

  53. Prepare 1/2 bottle of guard peeled and chopped.

  54. You need 2 of potatoes peeled and chopped.

  55. You need 1 of big Tomato chopped.

  56. It’s 1 bunch of coriander clean wash and chopped.

  57. Prepare to taste of Salt.

  58. Prepare 2 tsp of Red kashmiri chilli powder.

  59. It’s 1 tsp of black pepper powder.

  60. Prepare 1 tsp of turmeric powder optional.

  61. It’s 2 tbsp of oil.

Navrathri holds a special place in my heart.

The fasting women receive a Sargi thali before the fast breaks on the day of fast.

Sargi thali is full of energizing food items that help sustain the woman through the ordeal of the fast.

Items like sindoor, sarees, etc are also given along with the foods as symbols of love and care.

Fasting thali step by step

  1. For sabudana kheer.

  2. In a heavy bottom pan add milk let it boil add all nuts and sugar.

  3. Add kesar add sabudana boil it again till all sugar dissolve…

  4. It took 5-10 minutes to get thick..but keep stirring else it will stick to pan.

  5. Switch off the flame let it cool keep it in fridge to chill.

  6. For loki tamatar ki s.

  7. First peeled bottle guard and chopped it in cubes.

  8. Chopped tomatoes.

  9. Heat oil in cooker add mustard seeds when it crackling.

  10. Add chopped bottle guard add tomatoes salt chilli powder coriander powder and fresh coriander.

  11. Cover the cooker give two whistles slow the flame 1 more whistle on slow flame switch off the gas..tour loki tamatar ki sabji ready.

  12. Sabudana tikki.

  13. In a bowl add Sabudana grated Potatoes black pepper powder crushed peanuts and chopped coriander sendha namak and make petty or tikki out of it.

  14. Heat a nonstick tawa add little oil when it hot enough put sabudana tikki and fry it till golden brown in color from both sides..serve hot…

  15. Rajgiri puri.

  16. In a bowl add Rajgiri flour salt black pepper powder grated potatoes add water slowly as needed to knead the dough…

  17. Heat oil.. divide the dough in equal balls..roll puri balls with rolling pin and fry it on medium flame till brown in color from both..your Rajgiri puri are ready.

  18. For cucumber raita add curd chopped coriander chopped cucumber salt black pepper powder and cumin powder mix well.keep it in fridge to chill.. cucumber raita is ready.

  19. For lassi.

  20. Add water curd cumin powder salt and chopped mint together blend it.

  21. Add crushed ice and serve chilled.

  22. For veggies samo rice.

  23. In a pan add oil when it is hot enough.

  24. Add cumin seeds mustard seeds.

  25. Add veggies of your choice I added chopped potatoes bottle guard carrot and mix well add spices like chilli powder sendha namak turmeric powder black pepper powder and mix well..

  26. Add water as needed when it cooked and veggies become tender add tomato and chopped coriander.. adjust spices as per your taste.. tadaaaa your veggies samo rice ready…

  27. Add soaked drained samo rice and mix well add.

A bouquet of farali dishes assembled and served in a traditional thali.

It is a complete farali meal during Navratri, fasting, or other upvass or vrat days like janmashtami or mahashivratri.
