Kottayam fish curry recipe which is also called as Meen Mulakittathu is a very simple recipe using fish tamarind. only very few ingredients are used to make a delicious Kerala Kottayam style meen curry. When we talk about the fish curries, there are so many variants of the curry made across different regions of Kerala. As the names suggest, Meen Mulakkitathu is a basic fish curry that is cooked with kudum puli (Malabar Tamrind) and red chili powder.
This is my mother's recipe for the spicy and extremely tasty Kottayam style fish curry.
My fish curries were always a flop until I tried this recipe.

It’s of Fish -3/4kg(preferably king fish/Seer Fish/Vanjaram).

It’s 2 of big piece kudam puli.

You need 1 of big piece Ginger.

You need of Garlic-4.

It’s of Curry leaves-2 strings.

It’s of Green Chilli-4(slits).

Prepare of Salt-2tsp.

Prepare of Water-3cups.

Prepare of Chilli Powder-2tbsp.

Prepare of Turmeric powder-1/2tsp.

Prepare 1/4 tsp of Fenugreek powder.

You need of Mustard seeds-1/4tsp.

You need of Fenugreek seeds-10.

You need of Dry red chilli-2 (slits).

It’s tbsps of Coconut Oil-3.
Kerala Fish Curry (Kottayam Style) or Meen Curry ( മീൻ കറി ) is a spicy curry.
It is a good combination with rice and tapioca ( kappa ).
Tried it and everyone loved the fish curry.
I used the sardines in the tin but came out so tasty.

Clean and wash fish. Cut into medium pieces..

Heat manchatty(earthernware pot/mud pot) and add coconut oil and splutter mustard seeds,fenugreek seeds and dry red chilli along with curry leaves.. Then add thin long slices of ginger,garlic and green chilli…

Saute for 1 minute and lower the heat. Make a paste of chilli powder,turmeric powder and fenugreek powder with little water. Add the paste to the manchatty. Saute until the raw smell goes..

Then pour hot water and add salt.. Then add kudam puli and boil well..
Finally add fish and cook for about 20 minutes in medium heat.
- Check the salt. Allow to cool for sometime.. It will be more good if it sits for bit long.
Serve with kappa (Tapioca Curry)..
Love the addition of fenugreek seed powder.

Meen Vevichathu is essentially a fish curry that uses, fresh kokum as the souring agent in the curry. Seer fish slices are marinated and cooked in a finger licking good curry.
The base of the curry is made with coconut, and whole spices along with with some ginger and garlic. Flavoured with some spicy sambar.
