Ingredients of Rohu fish in banana leaf

  1. You need 4 of standard pieces of rohu fish.

  2. It’s 2/3 18" size of banana leaves. Peel off from middle of the leaf similar to threads for tying the wrapped materials.

  3. It’s 1tsp of poppy seed —.

  4. You need 1&1/2 tsp each of black & yellow muster seeds.

  5. It’s 2 medium size of onion cut into thin pieces.

  6. Prepare 1tsp of garlic paste.

  10. Prepare 1 tbsp of green cilli paste.

Grind the mustard and poppy seeds together with one or two green chilies.

Mix together the salt, turmeric, chili powder and oil.

Smear the fish with the paste.

Wash and cut banana leaves into large rectangles and warm over the gas flame swiftly to make it pliable.

Rohu fish in banana leaf step by step

  1. Step 1 — slightly dry up the leaves over flame for smooth wrapping..

  2. Step 2 — mix well ground poppy seeds, ground both type of mustard seeds, onions, garlic paste, green chili paste, red chilli powder, whole green chillies, mustard oil, salt, turmeric powder & pieces of fish. Keep it for 10 mins..

  3. Step 3 — place the banana leaves in a overlapping position to prevent mixture coming out of leaves..

  4. Step 4 — place the entire mixture on leaves in such a way that fish pieces are inbetween the layers of the mixed ingredients..

  5. Step 5 — wrap it well & then tie the wrapped bundle with leaf threads taken out earlier..

  6. Step 6 — heat up flat tawa/pan after greasing with oil on low flame. Once it is hot place the wrapped bundle on tawa/pan. Once the bottom surface becomes brownish (30 to 40 mins), turn upside-down. When the other side also becomes brown, switch off the flame..

  7. Step 7 - Give 10/15 mins standing time. Then serve with rice..

  8. TIPS — while grinding (poppy seeds & mustard seeds) add little milk & pinch of salt. — drying up of leaves is a must to prevent from tearing..

Arrange the marinaded fish in the leaves and make a parcel.

Coat each piece of fish with the mixture.

Place one fish and one slit green chilly on each portion of banana leaf.

Place a small metal utensil (steel glass/bowl) in it.

Put grid on the metal utensil.
