  1. You need 500 gm of chicken with bone.

  2. You need 7-8 of arvi(taro root) skinout and cut into half.

  3. Prepare 1 of big tomatoes chopped.

  4. Prepare 2 of medium onions chopped.

  5. It’s 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste.

  6. You need 2-3 of garlic Cloves.

  7. Prepare 3-4 of green chillies slitted.

  8. You need 1 of bay leaf.

  9. Prepare 2 of red chillies.

  10. Prepare 1 tsp of cumin powder.

  11. You need 1/2 tsp of whole cumin seeds.

  12. It’s 1 inch of cinnamon stick.

  13. It’s 2 of green cardamoms.

  14. It’s to taste of Salt.

  15. It’s 1 tsp of turmeric powder.

  16. It’s 2-3 tsp of mustard oil.

Aachar diye Kochur torakari (Pickled Taro root curry / Aachari Arbi) Kochur torkari Kochu , known as arbi in Hindi and Taro root in English, is not commonly found in the menu…but trust me after trying this recipe, kochu should get it's due respect!!!

Add the boiled Kochu to the spices.

Add turmeric, salt and sugar as per taste.

Fold in all the dry spices with the Kochu.

Bengali Gati kochu diye chicken curry with arbi instructions

  1. Marinate first chicken with salt, little turmeric and 1/2 tsp mustard oil for at least 30 mins..

  2. Boiled arvi for 2-3 mins. If arvi are very good, not causing itchy then not required to boil..

  3. Heat 1 tsp oil in a kadai, add whole cumin. Then add chicken along with arvi and fry for 2-5 mins in medium heat. Continuous stirring is required for this step. Keep aside chicken and arvi..

  4. Now in the same kadai, add rest of oil, add rest of whole masala. When aroma arise, then add chopped onions. Fry onion till golden then add ginger garlic paste, along with chopped tomatoes and slitted green chillies. In this point add chicken and arvi and start cooking in low to medium flame. Add cumin powder when gravy leaves oil..

  5. In that point add turmeric, salt, garlic cloves and hot water. Add water as per your requirement. Then boiled in high flame with lid. Boiled untill chicken cooked..

Apply light pressure on the Kochus to slightly mash the edges.

This would give the texture to the curry.

We can eat simply steam cook with ketchup/chutney or we can stir fry and deep fry too.
