South Indian veg salna. Veg salna or Parotta salna needs no introduction. It is basically a vegetarian version of the popular Salna curry that is made with meat. The veg salna is usually served with Parotta, also known as Malabar Parotta.

It is popular among people because of its spicy flavor and price.

It can be served with parotta, idli, idiyappam, chapati, appam, and many more Tiffen items.

Salna meaning gravy, in Tamil, originated from the South Indian city of Madurai, Tamilnadu, India.

You can cook South Indian veg salna using 17 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of South Indian veg salna

  1. You need 1 whole of Cauliflower-.

  2. Prepare 2 of Onion -.

  3. It’s 2 of Tomatoes -.

  4. It’s 4 pods of Garlic -.

  5. It’s 1 inch of ginger.

  6. You need 2 of Green chilli-.

  7. Prepare 1 tbsp of Coriander powder.

  8. It’s 1 tsp of Kashmiri red chilli power.

  9. Prepare 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  10. Prepare 1 of bay leaf.

  11. Prepare 4 of Cloves.

  12. It’s 4 of Cinnamon.

  13. It’s 1 of Staranies.

  14. You need 1 tsp of Cumin seeds.

  15. You need as required of Salt.

  16. Prepare As required of Fresh coriander leaves.

  17. It’s 1 tbsp of spoon of butter.

Salna or Chaalna, as it is pronounced, is a curry or gravy prepared with Vegetables or Meat (chicken or mutton), onion, tomato, coconut and some powdered spices like turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and garam masala.

Salna is a Tamil word I guess.

Plain salna is also popularly known as empty salna.

Empty salna is nothing but plain tomato based masala gravy without vegetables.

South Indian veg salna instructions

  1. Cut all the onions, tomatoes, garlic and ginger to small pieces.

  2. Heat the kadai and add 2 teaspoon of oil and add all the ingredient mean for seasonings.

  3. Then add 2 green chilli and onion, ginger and garlic saute it for 5 minutes.

  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and kashmiri red chilli powder add required salt.

  5. And saute it for 5 to 10 minutes.

  6. Now add the tomatoes to it and off the flam and add let it cool and grind it to a smooth paste.

  7. Now saute the cauliflower by adding 3 teaspoon of oil in a cooker.

  8. Then add the masala paste to it.

  9. Then add 2 glass of water and close the lid retain for 2 whistles.

  10. Garnish with some fresh coriander leaves and a tsps of butter.

Its so flavorful and tastes great not only with parotta but also with idli, dosa, chapathi and idiyappam.
