Recipe: At Home Vegetable Salna Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Vegetable Salna. Vegetable Salna Recipe / Veg Salna Recipe / Vegetable Chalna Recipe. I wanted to share a restaurant style actually it is thattukada style vegetable salna recipe in this blog. I make my vegetable korma or curry in a whole lot of ways, but i think i haven't shared much in this blog.

It's loved so much that customers order several boxes of this alone.

This healthy street-food curry can be eaten on its own and goes well with.

Vegetable salna / Vegetable gravy is a perfect side dish recipe for Parotta and also goes very well with chapathi, Idli and Dosa.

You can cook Vegetable Salna using 23 ingredients and 11 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Vegetable Salna

  1. Prepare 2 cups of Boiled vegetables.

  2. You need of Salt.

  3. It’s 2 cups of water.

  4. You need 3 tbsps of oil.

  5. It’s 1 tsp of fennel saunf /.

  6. It’s 3 of green chillies.

  7. You need of mint / pudhina.

  8. Prepare 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.

  9. You need 1 tbsp of chilly red powder.

  10. Prepare 2 tbsps of coriander cumin - powder.

  11. It’s 3 tbsps of oil.

  12. Prepare 3 of cardamom.

  13. Prepare 1/2 inch of cinnamon.

  14. You need 3 of cloves.

  15. Prepare 1 of star anise.

  16. It’s 1 of bay leaf.

  17. It’s 1 tbsp of fennel saunf /.

  18. It’s 1 tbsp of cumin jeera /.

  19. Prepare 1 tbsp of Poppy seeds.

  20. It’s 3 of Tomato chopped.

  21. Prepare 2 of onion chopped.

  22. It’s 1/2 tsp of ginger garlic paste.

  23. You need 1/4 cup of coconut.

This is the most famous and most ordered recipe in small hotels called " Thallu Vandi " in Tamil Nadu and is one of my favorite recipe too.

Salna is a Tamil word I guess.

Plain salna is also popularly known as empty salna.

Empty salna is nothing but plain tomato based masala gravy without vegetables.

Vegetable Salna step by step

  1. Make the above mentioned pre-requisite ready. Itll take about 10-12 minutes for the vegetables to cook..

  2. Take a kadaai, keep it on medium heat. Add 3 tbsps of oil and add all the ingredients given under "Roasting and grinding". Add them in the above mentioned order only..

  3. Saute them until aromatic or until the tomato turns soft and mushy. It should leave oil in the sides..

  4. Transfer this to a blender jar and grind it to a smooth paste without adding water..

  5. In the same kadaai, on medium heat, add 3 tbsps of oil, crackle fennel seeds and add green chillies and pudhina and saute them for few seconds..

  6. Add the cooked vegetables to this and saute..

  7. Now add turmeric, red chilly powder, coriander-cumin powder and mix..

  8. Now add the prepared paste to this and pour in 2 cups of water. Add required amount of salt and mix..

  9. Close this with a lid and allow it to cook in medium heat for about 7 minutes..

  10. Remove the lid and garnish it with some paneer and finely chopped coriander leaves..

  11. Take it off the heat and serve it hot..

Its so flavorful and tastes great not only with parotta but also with idli, dosa, chapathi and idiyappam.

You can use this salna for making kothu parotta.

Salna is a spicy, delicious side dish served with parotta in road side hotels of Tamil nadu(Kai endhi bhavan).

It is very popular in Madurai.
