Ingredients of Ragi idiyappam

  1. Prepare of whole Ragi or Ragi flour.

  2. Prepare of water.

  3. Prepare of coconut oil.

  4. Prepare of salt.

As the water comes to a rolling boil, switch off the heat and add ragi flour.

  1. Grind the whole Ragi in a mixer jar to make a fine powder or use directly use store brought Ragi flour..

  2. Dry roast the ragi flour until you get a nice aroma..

  3. In a boiling pot boil a glass of water with few drops of coconut oil.

  4. Mix the ragi flour with the above piping hot water, salt and hand Blend to make a soft dough.

  5. Place the dough inside the Idyappam presser.

  6. Take a idly plate and grease with some coconut oil and start pressing.

  7. After pressing, place the plate inside the idly pot and steam for 10 minutes.

  8. After 10 Minutes, delicious Ragi Idyappam is ready to serve. Serve with ghee fried coconut and sugar (I used natural sugar) or coconut milk with sugar..

I have already shared plain Idiyappam Recipe with rice flour, but this is prepared by using Ragi / Kezhvaragu / Finger Millet / Nachini by whatever name you call, it's health benefits are unlimited.

It is an ancient grain and it is gluten free too, also helps in weight loss, packed with calcium, amino acids.

I chose to make Ragi Idiyappam because Ragi (Finger Millet) is easily available and is very nutritious.

Ragi is also known for its cooling properties and is one of the best sources of Calcium.
