Bhetki maccher paturi (Barramundi fish). Bengali Bhetki Macher Paturi Recipe is Bengali Style Barramundi Fish cooked by wrapping in banana leaf. The bhetki fish pieces are marinated in a spiced mustard paste, wrapped in banana leaf individually and then slow cooked till tender. The word "Paturi" means leaf, in Bengali. Generally we Bengalis make paturi using  Ilish (hilsa fish), Bhetki (Barramundi fish) and chingri (prawn).

Ingredients of Bhetki maccher paturi (Barramundi fish)

  1. Prepare 500 g of Bhetki fillet cut into pieces.

  2. It’s 2 table spoon of mustard seeds.

  3. Prepare 1 table spoon of poppy seeds.

  4. Prepare 4 table spoon of fresh coconut paste.

  5. Prepare 1 teaspoon of green chilli paste.

  6. It’s 8-10 of green chillies.

  7. It’s To taste of Salt.

  8. You need 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  9. Prepare 3-4 table spoon of Mustard oil.

  10. Prepare 1 of banana leaf cut into rectangular pieces.

This Barramundi fish or Bhetki Fish is very popular among Bengali people - for its taste.

Bhetki maccher paturi (Barramundi fish) step by step

  1. Wash the fish pieces.. add salt and lemon juice..Mix well and keep it aside for 10 minutes..

  2. In the meantime grind the mustard seeds and poppy seeds with a pinch of salt..

  3. In a big bowl add mustard seeds paste poppy seeds paste green chilli paste coconut paste turmeric powder salt and mustard oil.

  4. Mix it well..

  5. Now add the fish pieces with the masala..

  6. . Coat each fish piece with masala.And keep them for marination at least for 30 minutes..

  7. Wash the banana leaf and Pat them dry.cut them into square size..

  8. Rub little mustard oil on both the side of leaf.And lightly roast the leaves on the flame of your gas..

  9. Now take out the fish.place the fish in the center of the leaf with the masala.place a green chilli on the top of the fish..

  10. Fold the leaf like a parcel and tie with thread..

  11. Now on a non stick tawa add some mustard oil..

  12. Place the banana leaf parcel on the hot tawa.And cover with a lid..

  13. Cook on medium heat for 10 minutes each side..

  14. When all parcel will be done served the closed parcel with steam rice..

This recipe is easy to replicate with any white fleshed fish and basic Indian spices!
