How to Easy at dinner Phulkopi Aloo Dalna Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Phulkopi Aloo Dalna. Bongs love their Luchi along with a bowl full of Aloo Phulkopir Dalna and this dish is completely different from famous North Indian "Aloo Gobhi". "DALNA" is a typical Bengali vegetarian gravy dish. "CHANAR DALNA", "DHOKAR DALNA" etc are also equally famous and both the recipes are already there on my blog. Bengali Aloo Phulkopi / Aloo Gobi Matar (No Onion No Garlic Recipe) / Potato Cauliflower Curry. Before the nail biting coldness of winter wanes, into warmth of a promising spring, here is a series of Winter Special Posts, starting from today that will feature some of the winter favourites of our home.

So making this recipe does take some time but worth it.

For the recipe I referred to the various cookbooks I have.

Cooked with cauliflower and potato in a spicy gravy, Aloo Phulkopi Dalna is not to be confused with Alu Gobi.

You can have Phulkopi Aloo Dalna using 18 ingredients and 2 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Phulkopi Aloo Dalna

  1. Prepare 2 cups of cauliflower florets.

  2. Prepare 1 of potato cubed.

  3. It’s 1 tbsp of ginger paste.

  4. It’s 1 tbsp of Cookme Aloor Dum Masala.

  5. You need 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.

  6. You need 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  7. It’s 1/2 tsp of Kashmiri red chilli powder.

  8. Prepare 1/2 cup of mustard oil.

  9. You need 2 tbsp of tomato puree or 2 tomatoes chopped.

  10. Prepare 1 pinch of asafoetida.

  11. You need To taste of salt.

  12. It’s 1/2 tsp of sugar.

  13. Prepare 1 of bay leaf.

  14. You need 1 tsp of ghee.

  15. Prepare 2 tbsp of green peas.

  16. Prepare 1 tbsp of coriander chopped.

  17. It’s 1 tsp of fresh cream.

  18. You need 1/2 cup of water approximately.

While Aloo Gobi usually is a stir fry contains onion and garlic, in Aloo Phulkopir Dalna has a spicy-tangy gravy and it is a completely no-onion no-garlic recipe and thus, it is considered as a satvik aahar.

Similarly a milder version is this Bengali Style Cauliflower Potato Curry called Phulkopir Aloo Dalna.

Phulkopi is the Bengali term for cauliflower and dalna is often referred to light pure vegetarian curries.

Aloo means Potato, Phulkopi means Cauliflower and Dalna means niramish or vegetarian curry which is usually made with ginger and cumin seeds paste.

Phulkopi Aloo Dalna instructions

  1. Cut cauliflower into small florets.Blanch them in hot water for few minutes.Drain water completely and set aside.For garam masala dry roast 2 tsp cumin,1 tsp coriander,bay leaf,3-4 cardamoms,1 stick cinnamon,2 cloves,1 dry red chilli,few peppercorns.Grind to a fine powder and preserve this masala for use in other curries also.Wet grind ginger paste.Heat mustard oil and fry cubed potatoes till half done.Fry cauliflower till golden spots appear on the surface..

  2. Remove fried cauliflower to a kitchen paper towel to remove excess oil.In 1 tsp oil sprinkle cumin seeds and bay leaf.When they sizzle,add asafoetida.Then add ginger and tomato puree.Add turmeric,red chilli powder,salt and sugar to taste.Also add aloo dum masala and fresh cream.Toss all.Add the fried cauliflower, potato and green peas.Add water and boil in moderate flame till done.Sprinkle garam masala,ghee and chopped coriander.Serve hot with rice or any Indian flat bread..

Among different cauliflower recipes, vegan ones are quite easy to find especially Bengali phulkopir recipes.

How to make aloo phulkopir dalna : Take off and cut the potatoes into quarters, cut the cauliflower into medium sized florets, cut tomatoes into quarters.

Take off and cut the onions.

Heat up oil in a pot and when very hot fry the potatoes lightly and drain.

My recipe here today is not the regular aloo gobi; it is Bengali style phulkopir dalna which is a no-onion and no-garlic recipe of cauliflower, potato and peas curry and trust me you will love this!
