Alsi Podi/ Coconut Flax Seeds Chutney. Flax seeds are also known as Alsi in Hindi , Agase beeja in Kannada, Aviselu in Telugu,  jawas in  Maharashtra and Gujarat, ali virai in Tamil. Many people do not like the taste of Flax seeds but in this Recipe flax seeds are mixed with chana dal and urad dal to enhance its nutty flavor. Flax seed has many health benefits such as it helps in reduction of cardiovascular disease.

They are known as Alsi in Hindi , Agase beeja in Kannada, jawas in Maharashtra and Gujarat, ali virai in tamil and in telgu it is called as aviselu.

Ingredients of Alsi Podi/ Coconut Flax Seeds Chutney

  1. It’s 1/2 cup of Flax Seeds.

  2. You need 1/2 cup of peanuts.

  3. It’s 1 tablespoon of gram/chane.

  4. You need 1 of onion chopped.

  5. Prepare 10 of Garlic cloves.

  6. You need 1 tablespoon of Sesame oil.

  7. You need 4 of Dried red chillies broken or as per the taste.

  8. Prepare 1/4 cup of coconut powder (optional).

  9. You need 1 tablespoon of White sesame seeds.

  10. Prepare 1/2 teaspoon of Rock salt (sendha namak) to taste.

These are called as avisa ginjalu in telugu, Agase in kannada , Jawas in marathi, and Alsi in hindi.

They are said to protect human body from cancer and heart disease.

You can serve this flax chutney powder as a side dish to idli, dosa mixed with sesame oil or you can also mix it with rice.

Alsi Podi/ Coconut Flax Seeds Chutney step by step

  1. Heat a non stick pan and dry roast flax seeds and sesame seeds for 2 minutes on a low flame and transfer into a mixer jar..

  2. Dry roast peanuts and chane separately and transfer them to the mixer jar..

  3. Dry roast coconut powder for just 30 seconds and transfer into the mixer jar..

  4. Heat oil in a pan and add dried red chillies and sauté till crisp..

  5. In the same pan add onion and garlic and sauté till golden brown.

  6. Allow it to cool, when cooled add this to the mixer jar.

  7. Add rock salt and grind to a fine powdered chutney..

  8. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve with south Indian dishes or any other dishes..

  9. My tip - All ingredients are dry roasted and this can be stored for a month.

Flax Seed Podi is a delicious and healthy podi.

You can have this podi with idli or rice or use as a chutney for your meals.
