Puli aval (Tamarind Poha). So finally today i made a simple. Puli Aval / Tamarind Poha Yum A recipe for Puli Aval / Tamarind Poha, one of my favourite tiffin dishes that my great-grandmother would prepare for us. This is her recipe and I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do.
This puli aval upma is quick to fix for snack time / for breakfast.
The recipe is quite similar to lemon aval recipe that I posted sometime back.

You need of methi seeds.

Prepare of black til or white.

Prepare of roasted peanuts.

It’s of mustard seeds.

It’s of chana dal.

Prepare of urad dhal.

It’s of slit green chilli.

Prepare of curry leaves.

You need of gingelly oil.

It’s of Salt.

Prepare of hing.

You need of tamarind pulp.

It’s of turmeric powder.
Puli Aval Upma Recipe, tamarind infused poha, one of the traditional evening snack for marriages or engagement parties.
Spicy tamarind gravy is prepared and damped and soft poha is tossed and mixed to make this delicious Tamarind Poha.
Puli Aval Upma with toasted papad is a great combo!
At any given time , you can find both poha and rava stocked in my pantry.
Puli aval (Tamarind Poha) step by step

Dry roast methi seeds, dhaniya, pepper separately first and cook on a plate..

Now dry roast red chilli and black til. Cool on plate..

Roast peanuts and keep aside..

Now soak the poha in Tamarind pulp for ten mins. Now add oil in Kadhai it add mustard seeds chana daal urad dhal curry leaves and turmeric powder and cook well..

Once the roasted masala is cool add it with 1/4 cup of coconut with a pinch of salt and grind it to coarse paste..

Now add it to the poha mix well and lastly add peanuts again give it a good mix and serve hot..
So today i have for you all " Tamarind Poha " one such breakfast dish made from beatern rice.
In Kannada and Tamil its known as Huli Avalakki and Puli Aval respectively.
Tamarind poha is sweet, tangy, spicy ,very simple yet delicious.
It is more common to find the flakes (poha) made of white rice.
Rice flakes has a earthy flavor, chewy texture and light rose in color.
