Mor kuzhambu, meaning a yogurt based curry - Mor ( Buttermilk) kuzhambu ( Gravy ) is a comforting and delicious curry that is usually served with rice. It is usually made with veggies like okra/ ladiesfinger, whitte pumpkin, drumstick, arbi, capsicum etc.

In this recipe I have added Vendakai (Okra:Ladies finger) for the more kuzhambu.

Unlike sambar, kuzhambu etc. vendakkai Mor kulambu shouldn't be cooked for a longtime, so this can be prepared quickly.

It can also be taken as a side for idiyappam.

  1. It’s 1 cup of sour curd.

  2. You need 1 tsp of turmeric powder.

  3. You need To taste of salt.

  4. It’s 250 gm of ladiesfinger (cut into pieces).

  5. You need 2 tbsp of oil.

  6. It’s of Tempering.

  7. You need 1 tsp of mustard seeds.

  8. You need 1 tsp of urad dal.

  9. You need 2 of dry red chilli.

  10. It’s 2 tsp of curry leaves.

  11. It’s 2 tbsp of coconut oil.

  12. It’s of To grind.

  13. Prepare 1 tsp of rice.

  14. You need 1 tsp of toor dal.

  15. You need 1/2 inch of Ginger.

  16. You need 2-3 of green chillies.

  17. Prepare 2 tbsp of coconut (grated).

  18. It’s 1/2 tsp of cumin/jeera seeds.

I am not too fond of mor kuzhambu till it tried this recipe from Home cooking.

Mild spicy, tangy and so flavorful with roasted okra.

Don't boil too much after adding curd mixture and also don't reheat the curry.

Yogurt gravies are very popular in India and differ widely in methods of preparation depending on the part of the country they are made.

Ladiesfinger moor kulambhu Okra Yoghurt curry step by step

  1. Soak rice and dal for ½ hour. Take all ingredients to grind in a blender and grind to smooth a paste..

  2. Heat oil in pan and roast ladiesfinger till stickiness disappears. Set aside..

  3. Add salt and turmeric powder to curd and whisk until smooth. Add the coconut paste and mix well..

  4. Heat coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal..

  5. Next add dry chilli and curry leaves. Pour the curd mixture..

  6. Add the roasted ladiesfinger and switch off flame when it starts boiling..

They are Tamil Nadu's reply to the North Indian and Gujarati Kadhi and is delicious to have with plain rice!

It uses Okra/Ladies Finger/Bhindi and the taste is out of this world!

I love pairing it with Beans Poriyal and then we are on a roll!
