Recipe: Eating on a Dime Podi Rice Delicious, fresh and tasty.
Podi Rice. This flavorful rice is prepared using South Indian Chutney powder also known as milagai podi, gun powder, idli podi, dosa podi , molagai podi etc. I have posted my recipe on Podi Idli and in that I have posted the podi powder recipe. Using the same podi powder I have made this podi rice which is basically like a pulao and you can have it for your lunch and also give it in tiffin.

Ingredients of Podi Rice

Prepare 2 cups of cooked rice.

You need 2 tbsp of any idli podi (gunpowder).

It’s to taste of salt.

You need pinch of turmeric powder (opt).

Prepare 2 tbsp of ghee.

It’s pinch of asafoetida.

You need 1 tsp of mustard oil.

You need 1-2 sprigs of curry leaves.

You need 2 of green chilies, slit.

You need 1 tsp of urad dal (split green gram).

Prepare 2 of dry red chilies.

It’s 1 tbsp of coriander leaves, chopped.

Podi Rice step by step

Heat ghee in a pan & temper with red chilies and mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the curry leaves, urad dal, asafoetida, green chilies & asafoetida..

Saute for a few seconds and then Add the rice, idli podi, salt & turmeric powder. Mix everything well and stir fry for 2 minutes..

Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves..

Serve with papads, chips and fryums for breakfast, brunch or lunch..
