Easiest Way to Winter Tasty Kachaloo Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Kachaloo. Sindhis call it kachaloo; they fry it, compress it, and re-fry it to make a dish called tuk which complements Sindhi curry. In Kerala, a state in southern India, taro corms are known as chembu kizhangu (ചേമ്പ് കിഴങ്ങ്) and are a staple food, a side dish, and an ingredient in various side dishes like sambar. Yes, kachaloo as is commonly called in India, is another root veggie, that belongs to the same family as taro root, and is just slightly different from arbi (taro root).

Kachaloo is a variety of Arbi that we Malayalees call 'Chembu'.

This tuber is consumed boiled with green chili chutney back home for breakfast.

But recently I was introduced to this tuber in the form of a chaat by a friend from Delhi.

You can cook Kachaloo using 6 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Kachaloo

  1. You need of guava.

  2. It’s of banana.

  3. It’s of lemon juice.

  4. Prepare of Salt.

  5. Prepare of Black pepper powder.

  6. You need of Sugar.

Though her version had sweet potatoes, in my version I did not use sweet potatoes.

A spicy aloo-kachaloo (colocasia) chaat recipe which is sure to tingle your taste buds.

A combination of boiled kachaloo and potatoes tossed together with a tangy chaat masala, this chaat is irrestible!

Try this spicy and mazedar kachaloo and aloo recipe to entice your family and guests.

Kachaloo instructions

  1. Chop guava and banana and mix them together.

  2. Add black pepper powder with salt.

  3. Then add sugar with lemon juice,mix and serve.

  4. Chatpata kachaloo is ready.

  5. Best for digestion.

Kachalu or arbi (Colocasia root) is very popular amongst Sindhis.

It is basically root of Patra leaves (the same leaves which are used to make Aluwadis)It is relished in variety of ways, like boiled kachalu, fried kachalu, stuffed kachalu and also kachalu chaat.
