Having a bunch of apples and a little topping just isn't going to cut it for me.

I was looking for a double crust apple crisp recipe and couldn't find one that I liked.

This is what I came up with.

Double The Crust Apple Crisp instructions

  1. Set oven to 350°F..

  2. Grease a 13 by 9 pan..

  3. Peel, core and slice apples..

  4. In a mixing bowl combine apples, ground cinnamon, salt and sugar. Mix well..

  5. Place apple mixture evenly across the bottom of the pan..

  6. In the same mixing bowl mix oats, brown sugar, flour and butter until mixed all the way through. Should be crumbly..

  7. Apply the crumble mixture evenly over apples and place in oven..

  8. Bake for 50 minutes. Done!.

It has a lot of crunch and the filling is sweet & spicy.

My husband likes it warm with ice cream.

I had it as a side for cottage cheese as well and it was yummy!

Remember to use baking apples (preferably granny smiths) for this, as red delicious will be more sweet and therefore need less sugar.
