This traditional dish involves cooking roasted rava in water that has been flavored by ghee (or oil), cashews, urad dal (lentils), chana dal (husked chickpeas), onion, ginger and additional herbs and spices. And the Upma which is made with semolina is called rava upma, sooji upma or suji ka upma.

  1. You need 1 tablespoon of groundnut oil.

  2. You need 1 cup of semolina.

  3. Prepare 1 of medium size onion (sliced).

  4. You need 1 of Tomato (chopped).

  5. You need 1/2 of Capsicum (finely chopped).

  6. It’s 1/4 cup of Cabbage (finely chopped).

  7. You need 1 of Green Chilies (Finely Chopped).

  8. You need 1/2 tsp of Mustard seeds.

  9. You need to taste of Salt.

  10. It’s 1 Pinch of Red Chilli Powder.

  11. It’s 1/4 tsp of Black Pepper Powder.

  12. Prepare 1/4 tsp of Chat masala.

  13. You need 1/4 cup of Sprouts.

  14. It’s 2 1/2 cups of water.

  15. Prepare 2-3 tsp of Coriander (Chopped).

They are both made with sooji and water.

Suji Upma / Rava Upma step by step

  1. Put a pan on medium flame and add oil to it..

  2. When oil becomes hot, add the Mustard seeds in the oil, when the mustard seeds start to crack, add the onion and green chilli, stir it with a spoon..

  3. After 1 minute add capsicum, tomato, cabbage and sprouts mix and fry for 1 minute..

  4. Now add semolina, mix it for 1 minute..

  5. Add salt, red chilli powder, black pepper powder and chat masala and mix it..

  6. Now add lukewarm water to it and stir continuously so that there are no lumps. This process takes about 2 minutes..

  7. Now turn off the gas..

  8. Upma is ready to serve..

You can also add curry leaves in it..
