Idiyappam & peas curry. Idiyappam (Malayalam: ഇടിയപ്പം, Tamil: இடியாப்பம்), also known as string hopper, nool puttu (Malayalam: നൂൽപ്പുട്ട്, Tamil: நூல்புட்டு), or noolappam (Malayalam: നൂലപ്പം), is a rice noodle dish originating from the Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and as well as from Sri Lanka. Idiyappam is easy to make provided you follow a few helpful points and you will get soft idiyappam. I have mentioned all the points in the step by step pics.
Idiyappam is an all time favorite recipe at home.
Serve it with sweet coconut milk and stew and it makes for a fantastic breakfast or dinner.
You can also serve with Chicken Stew.

Ingredients of Idiyappam & peas curry

It’s 1 & 1/2 cup of water.

It’s 1/4 tsp of oil.

It’s 1 cup of rice flour.

Prepare 1 cup of peas.

You need 1 of potato.

Prepare 1 of onion.

It’s 1 of tomato.

You need 1 piece of ginger.

It’s 2 slice of garlic.

You need 3 of green chilli.

You need 1/2 tsp of cumin powder.

Prepare 1 tsp of coriander powder.

It’s 1/2 tsp of garam masala powder.

It’s 1 tsp of red chilli powder.

It’s 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.

Prepare 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds.

Prepare 1/2 tsp of jeera.
Idiyappam is also called as Nool Puttu in Karnataka and String Hoppers in Srilanka.
I cannot say enough about the cuisine of Kerala, God's own country.
I absolutely relish the traditional food recipes of Kerala especially their breakfast fare like Idiyappam, Puttu and Appam.

Idiyappam & peas curry step by step

1.Boil 1 and 1/2 cup of water with 1/4 tsp oil in a vessel.Switch off the flame as soon as u see one big bubble in the bottom of the vessel. Never allow to boil completely..

In a bowl,mix 1 cup of rice flour/ idiyappam flour and salt..

Pour the boiled water to the flour and stir till it makes smooth dough..

Then make this dough into big balls and sneeze it through an idiyappam presser.Squeeze it onto the idiyappam stand and steam it..

After 5 minutes open it and serve it hot with vegetable stew / kadala curry / peas curry..

Pressure cook soaked peas for 1 to 2whistle..

In a pan heat oil, add mustard seeds and let it splutter..

Add jeera seeds, chopped onion, green chilli, chopped ginger & garlic. Saute it..

Add the spices- turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt..

Add chopped tomato and immediately add cooked peas and potato.

Cook the gravy in medium flame till the potato cooked..

Garnish with coriander leaves..
