Whether you call it ndengu or pojo, this dish is loved by every Kenyan.

You can cook Coconut Green grams (pojo or ndegu) using 6 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Coconut Green grams (pojo or ndegu)

  1. It’s 500 grms of ndegu.

  2. It’s 1 of large onion.

  3. You need 1 cup of coconut milk.

  4. It’s 1 cup of coconut cream.

  5. Prepare 5-10 of green chilli.

  6. It’s to taste of Salt.

However, I discovered Ndengu, which is the Kenyan-style of mung beans, also called green grams.

Coconut Green grams (pojo or ndegu) step by step

  1. Soak the ndegu for 30 mins. Then boil for 10 mins.

  2. Pour out the water from the boiled ndegu.

  3. Return the ndegu back to the fire then add coconut milk, chopped onion, salt and green chillies ( dont chop the chillies. Boil until cooked.

  4. Add the coconut cream into the cooked ndegu then cover and simmer for 5-10 mins.

  5. Serve with mahamri or chapati.

This greenish stew does not look very inviting, but the taste of the mung beans is wonderful!

With some red colour, it looks more delicious - and it tastes so good!

This is my tomato sauce version of mung beans.

The recipe still worked out then, but here we are now with my turmeric and coconut milk ndengu!

Ndengu, or as our friends at the coast refer to as pojo, and what in English are mung beans or green grams, are such excellent absorbents of flavor and packed with a ton of health benefits!
