Green Gram-Sweet Potato Soup. Green Bean Sweet Potato Soup The sweet potatoes can be boiled together with the rest of the ingredients in the pot, or steamed separately then added to the green bean soup. If you are cutting down on refined sugar but okay with natural sugars, you can actually opt not to sweeten the green bean soup by omitting the rock sugar. This easy to prepare yet oh-so-elegant soup is a favorite at my house.

Green Gram-Sweet Potato Soup instructions

  1. Soak the green gram for 30minutes prior cooking.

  2. Pressure cook the gram using the same water upto 2 whistles or until soft.

  3. Boil the sweet potato and deskin and chop into cubes after it’s cool.

  4. Melt butter in a wok or a non stick pan and sauté the onions and garlic until the garlic brown and onions become translucent.

  5. Add the sweet potatoes and sauté for another 5 minutes.

  6. Finally add the green gram with the water used for cooking,salt,pepper,paprika, oregano powder.

  7. Combine all the ingredients well and add a cup of water.

  8. Reduce heat and let the soup simmer for 5-7 minutes or till the desired thickness is achieved and then add the coconut milk. Mix and take off heat.

  9. Serve hot in soup bowls.
