Recipe: Eating on a Dime The Best BLT Delicious, fresh and tasty.

The Best BLT. The rules for the best BLT. How is it that we're creeping up on Labor Day and I've yet to write about BLTs? I mean, seriously—seems like someone has been shirking his responsibilities.

This tasted ok but I don't think it was the 'best BLT' at all.

A BLT is not a well-dressed bacon sandwich.

A BLT is a tomato sandwich, seasoned with bacon.

You can have The Best BLT using 11 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of The Best BLT

  1. It’s 6 slice of of French bread.

  2. Prepare 2 tbsp of of butter.

  3. It’s 3 tbsp of of real mayo.

  4. It’s 10 of strips of bacon, cut in half.

  5. It’s 4 slice of of medium or sharp cheddar cheese or enough to cover the bread.

  6. You need 4 of leafs of green leaf lettuce.

  7. Prepare 8 slice of of tomatoes.

  8. You need of Try California style.

  9. It’s 6 slice of of avacado. This is my favorite way!.

  10. It’s of Try Breakfast style.

  11. You need 4 of eggs fried over easy (yolk runny, white cooked).

From this basic premise, all else follows.

Indeed, a better name for the BLT might well be the Tomato Club, for it is the perfect tomato, not the bacon, that is the rarest, the most ephemeral, the most singularly delicious ingredient.

My BLTs are the best BLTs because I marinate my tomatoes in Italian seasonings, salt, pepper, olive oil, and balsamic reduction.

The bread is lightly toasted and it is served with LOTS of big thick bacon, mayo, and romaine lettuce.

The Best BLT instructions

  1. Lay bacon flat on a griddle or large frying pan and fry till golden crispy.

  2. Meanwhile butter 1 side of each slice of bread.

  3. Drain bacon on paper towel. Dump grease and wipe pan with a paper towel..

  4. Heat same griddle on med heat and toast bread starting with the butter side down. Flip bread and place cheese on 4 slices. Toast till golden on each side..

  5. If you want egg, while bread is toasting fry eggs in a small amount of butter in a non stick skillet..

  6. Place 5 half strips of bacon evenly on top of cheese, then lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, grind some pepper on tomato, spread mayo on top slice of bread and wallah!.

  7. For California style: layer bacon on top of cheese, lettuce, tomato, ground pepper on tomato, then 1 and 1/2 slices of avacado, or enough to cover bread then mayo on top slice and press down gently. The avacado against the mayo keeps it from slipping out..

  8. For Breakfast style: Place egg on top of cheese, then bacon, lettuce, tomato, ground pepper and spread mayo on top slice. ENJOY!.

This bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich is AMAZING.

No kidding, this really is the best.

Because, if you're going to make a sandwich, don't think of it as "only a sandwich." Think of it as a time to construct a meal with all the best ingredients on the very best bread.
