Recipe: Eating on a Dime Black gram soup Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Black gram soup. Extract juice from gram and put it in soup. Throw the crushed grams after extracting juice. Add salt, black pepper I was writing a post about Black Gram (Urad Dal, Vigna mungo), but I've never eaten it.

This soup is first I made when I had cold and read over Google that Black Gram (काला चना) soup or curry dish is good for cough & cold; and guess what after drinking my cold goes away - in my case its work :P.

This soup is very easy to make and along with healthy soup this is a tasty soup also.

You can have Black gram soup using 7 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Black gram soup

  1. It’s 1/2 cup of Black gram - soaked and boiled.

  2. It’s 1 tsp of Crushed garlic.

  3. Prepare 1 tsp of Crushed ginger.

  4. It’s 1 tsp of Cumin seeds.

  5. You need to taste of Salt.

  6. You need 1/4 tsp of Black pepper powder.

  7. It’s 1 tbsp of Clarified butter.

Urad Dal or Black Gram lentils are normally used in the famous punjabi cuisine Dal Makhani.

However in my version of dal makhani on this blog, I have taken whole red lentils (sabut masoor dal) instead of black grams (urad dal).

Whole black lentils, also known as urad or black garam, are very similar to whole mung beans in size and shape, but are very different in taste and texture.

Black gram soup instructions

  1. Wash and soak black gram for 3 - 4 hours and boiled in a pressure cooker with two cup of water..

  2. Once cooled open the lid and make a paste of black gram and reserve the boiled black gram water.

  3. Heat clarified butter in a pan and add cumin seeds to crackle..

  4. Add ginger garlic and saute for few mins…

  5. Add black gram paste and saute for 4 - 5 mins. Now add boiled black gram water and bring to boil.

  6. Once boiled keep it in a slow flame and cook for ten mins.

  7. Add salt and black pepper powder and mix well..

  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot..
