Podi idli. Podi idli recipe - This is one of the most common idli varieties I make often at home for the breakfast. Making podi idli is super easy if you have the podi ready in your kitchen. However assuming most readers would not have the Idli podi ready, I have shared how to make the podi too here in this post.

Podi idli is very tasty and usually packed for travel journeys.

Podi idli can be made with either mini idlis or regular sized idlis.

I usually make podi idli with mini idlis.

You can cook Podi idli using 12 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you achieve it.

Ingredients of Podi idli

  1. You need of For podi.

  2. You need 1/2 cup of chana dal.

  3. You need 1/2 cup of urad dal.

  4. You need Pinch of asafoetida.

  5. You need 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder.

  6. Prepare 5-6 of dry red chillies.

  7. Prepare 1 tsp of oil.

  8. You need of For rava idle.

  9. You need 1 cup of rava.

  10. You need 1/2 cup of curd.

  11. You need 1/2 tsp of soda.

  12. Prepare 1/2 cup of water.

For the idli podi you can use homemade or store brought.

It is also known as Milagai Podi, Gun Powder, Chutney Podi or Idli Karam Podi.

This Powder can spice up or add flavour to your simple meals and make them rather interesting.

To make this Podi, you will need - urad dal, chana dal, sesame seeds, hing, curry leaves, dry red chillies and coconut.

Podi idli step by step

  1. For podi powder- add oil in pan and roast chillies and keep aside..

  2. Same pan fry urad dal,chana dal for 1minutes.on a mixie add urad dal,chana dal,chillies,curry leaves,turmaric,hing and make smooth powder..

  3. Now on a bowl put rava,curd mix it well.as required start adding water.make a smooth batter.now add soda and keep aside for 10minutes..

  4. On a high flame bring enough water to boil in an idli steamer..

  5. Grease your idle plates lightly..

  6. Fill the molds with batter..

  7. When the water begins to bubble and steams up place the stand in the steamer.cover it..

  8. After 10minutes switch off the flame and keep it aside for 2minutes.now remove the idlies..

  9. On a pan put ghee and podi powder.staire it.now add idlies and cover it with podi powder..rava idli podi is rrady to serve..

Podi idli is a combination of idli and podi.

And the combining agent is ghee/clarified butter.

This is a very simple recipe for idli.

Generally, many ingredients are used to temper idli but I have used only ghee.

This way the flavor of podi gets enhanced.
