Hing jeera tadka dal. Hing Jeera Dal Tadka is a delicious side dish for your meals. Hing Jeera Dal Tadka is a very simple but appetizing dal tadka. This has a nice flavour of cumin/jeera, hing/asafoetida and some spices.

This is one of my favourite dal recipes and also one of the simplest I know.

This Old Delhi style creamy Arhar dal with heeng jeera chaunk (tadka) is a recipe from my maternal grandmother.

You can cook Hing jeera tadka dal using 9 ingredients and 2 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Hing jeera tadka dal

  1. Prepare 100 gms of moong dal.

  2. It’s 1 tsp of jeera.

  3. It’s 1/2 tsp of hing.

  4. It’s 1/2 tsp of red chilli Powder.

  5. Prepare 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.

  6. You need As per taste of Salt.

  7. You need 4-5 tbsp of desi ghee.

  8. It’s 1/2 tsp of garam masala.

  9. You need 400 ml of water.

My maternal grandmother or Chaiiji, as we all fondly called her, grew up in Old Delhi.

While my maternal grandfather or Bauji was from Punjab and liked all things punjabi, Chaiji brought a lot of food.

Add bay leaf, red chilli, hing, jeera/saunf, ginger paste and green chillies in written order and sauté till the masala tempers.

Pour the boiled dal to it, add sugar and some salt (if needed) and give it a boil.

Hing jeera tadka dal instructions

  1. Soak the dal for one hour, take big kadai on heat and put the soaked dal, water,salt and turmeric powder and 1 tspn ghee..

  2. Boil it for 10 minutes. And make a tadka in tadka pan and heat the ghee put hing in it add jeera off the flame and add red chilli powder and garam masala.put this tadka on Boiled dal.ready your hing jeera tadka dal.serve with rice or chapati as your wish.

To make the tadka, in a kadai, add hing, jeera, chopped ginger and garlic.

Add chopped onions, green chillies, lightly brown them..

Keep the lid closed so that the aroma of the tadka sweeps through the dal.

Alternatively pour the tadka on the dal in the pressure cooker itself and close the lid till further.
