Masoor daal biryani. This recipe for Masoor Dal Biryani has been contributed by Mahjabeen Sayed, the mother of one of my colleagues, Afreen Sayed. In fact, the recipe that Mahjabeen-ji has shared is very versatile and can be adapted to make a variety of biryanis. This is my first adaption of this wonderful recipe.
Just like this masoor dal or brown lentil biryani, it tastes absolutely amazing.
This biryani has all those layers of fried onion, coriander and mint leaves, saffron milk etc. that goes in the making of biryanis.
Basic Ingredients for Masoor Dal Biryani: Firstly, Whole Masoor Dal- Whole brown lentils.

Ingredients of Masoor daal biryani

It’s of small potatoes.

Prepare of Sabat garam masala.

You need of teaspoon red chilli powder.

Prepare of Salt as per taste.

You need of teaspoon haldi powder.

Prepare of teaspoon cumin roasted.

Prepare of tab spoon biryani masala.

It’s of tab spoon imlli soaked in 1/2 cup water.

Make the basic milk rice in advance to save time and effort.
I have added apricots and raisins to the masoor masala to make it more interesting.
Masoor daal biryani step by step

Fry onion. 3 cloves,3-4 black pepper, 1 inch cinnamon. Till onion golden brown. Take out on kitchen tissue.

Add potatoes in oil and add salt. Fry for a little. Add ginger garlic paste..

Add golden brown onion then add all spices, tomato purée..

ADD yoghurt. Mix well add biryani masala. And imlli pulp.cover it till potatoes done..

Add masoor daal cooked or boiled daal..

Add boiled rice on it. Then add some golden onions. Lemon fresh mint and yellow food colour on it. Cover it for 15-20 mins on dam..

It’s done..
Cook this till daal becomes tender and then mash it.
Now add lemon juice, coriander and small pieces of onion.
