Rava Upma. Upma is one of the most common and traditional South Indian breakfast dishes made using rava and veggies. Upma or rava Upma is a savory porridge where semolina is cooked with some whole spices, nuts, and veggies. Upma is a flavorful South Indian breakfast dish made from rava or cream of wheat.

It's more common in South India but now I see it just as much everywhere in India.

My mom always said, upma is the savory version of sooji halwa, whhich is true in a way.

Rava Upma is a thick, porridge-like breakfast recipe that is made from course semolina that has been dry-roasted.

You can have Rava Upma using 12 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Rava Upma

  1. Prepare 1 cup of rava.

  2. It’s 1/4 cup of dry roasted peanut.

  3. You need 1 of medium sized onion finely chopped.

  4. It’s 1 of medium sized potato finely chopped.

  5. You need 1/4 cup of finely chopped capcicum.

  6. You need 2 tbsp of oil.

  7. Prepare 1 tbsp of chopped green chilli.

  8. Prepare 1 tsp of mustard seeds.

  9. You need 1 of string of curry leaves.

  10. Prepare of Salt as per taste.

  11. Prepare 1 tsp of sambhar masala.

  12. It’s As needed of Water.

Rava Upma or Uppittu recipe is one of the common breakfast recipes prepared in Karnataka.

In many hotels, this upma and kesaribath is served together as chow chow bath.

In some places, Kharabath is served instead of uppittu.

Upma is a savory porridge made with semolina / rava, ginger and green chillies.

Rava Upma instructions

  1. Heat the pan and dry roast the rava. Transfer it in a plate and keep aside..

  2. In the same pan add oil heat it now add mustard seeds, curry leaves and green chilli allow to spulter..

  3. Now add all the veggies and saute it. (You add variety of veggies of your choice. I have only these veggies because of lockdown so I used it). Add salt according to veggies and cook it..

  4. Once the veggies are cooked add water and sambhar masala and allow to boil. When its become boil add roasted rava and salt according to rava and mix it well. (Remember we already add salt in veggies). Now cook it for 6-7 minutes on low to medium flame or till the water fully absorbed..

  5. Once its cooked add roasted peanut and mix it well. Rava Upma is ready..

It is a traditional South Indian breakfast dish and usually served with coconut chutney, peanut chutney, podi or any pickle.
