Easiest Way to Cook Tasty Upma in Tomato Puree Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Upma in Tomato Puree. Upma and Poha are two breakfast dishes I make regularly as they are quick to prepare with easily available ingredients. Amongst the upma varieties, tomato upma is my favorite. the reason being I like a lot of recipes made with tomatoes. The tang from the tomatoes perks up the overall flavor in any recipe.

Tomato rava upma is made with semolina (sooji, suji, rava), tomatoes, various vegetables, and a variety of spices and aromatics.

Chana dal, urad dal, and cashew nuts add a crunchy texture to the otherwise soft tomato upma.

Thakkali Upma or Tomato Upma is an easy and healthy dish that you can make for breakfast or dinner for an wholesome meal.

You can cook Upma in Tomato Puree using 13 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Upma in Tomato Puree

  1. Prepare 1 cup of Rava/ Simolina.

  2. You need 1 cup of tomato puree.

  3. Prepare 1 tsp of chana dal.

  4. Prepare 1 tsp of urad dal white.

  5. It’s 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds.

  6. You need 3/4 of curry leaves.

  7. You need 1 tbls of ghee.

  8. It’s 1 1/2 tsp of sambhar masala.

  9. It’s of powder.

  10. It’s 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder.

  11. Prepare to taste of Salt.

  12. Prepare 1 tbsp of lemon juice.

  13. You need 1 tbls of ghee for garnish.

Tomato Upma is my all-time favourite breakfast.

It is an almost oil-free recipe and hence is high up on my list of healthy breakfast recipes.

It is a South-Indian breakfast option which my mum learnt from one of our neighbours from Tamil Nadu and she shared this recipe with us.

Add tomato puree along with water.

Upma in Tomato Puree instructions

  1. In a wok dry roast rava semolina.

  2. Other side on the flame keep pan add ghee when hot add both the dal and stir it till golden now add mustard seeds and curry leaves let them splatter.

  3. Now add tomato puree and cook till for 5/6 minutes water from tomato will dry up little now add salt red chilli powder and sambhar masala stir it mix it well.

  4. Now in it add roasted rava and give nice stir add double of the quantity of mixture stir it if required add little more water and lemon juice as rava absorbs more water.

  5. Before you switch off the flame see the consistency should not be very dry it should be little loose as in 10/15 minutes it will become dry so.

  6. Serve with pickle or coconut chutney we do love it to ear with pickle choice is yours quick light and healthy 🌹.

Make sure you bring it to a boil.

Once it comes to a boil, add in the roasted sevai and mix well.
