While there are many recipes and versions of this traditional sweet, this is a traditional recipe where Nei Appam is made with Rice that is soaked and ground into a batter.
Kerala Unniyappam Recipe/Nei Appam or Sweet Paniyaram is an easy to make instant low fat sweet appam recipe.

Then transfer it to a bowl and add wheat flour. Cardamom powder, dry ginger powder, jaiphal powder and a pinch of salt. Mix all the ingredients well so that no lumps are formed..

In a small pan add little ghee and fry the cut coconut pieces till golden brown. Add it to the appam batter..

You can make appams immediately. But here I have rested the batter for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes..

Heat ghee in a Kadai on medium flame. Take a small amount of batter in a small ladle and drop it gently into the ghee..

When it puffs, turn over and cook the other side till golden brown. Drain the ghee using a slotted ladle and take it out from Kadai. Deep fry one appam at a time. Repeat the process for rest of the batter..
