Beans and ripe plantain porridge. Then drain the water and wash. Nigerian Beans and plantain porridge is a meal made up of ripe plantains and beans. This is tasty dish and has become popular over the years , as most parents have discovered it as a way of getting their kids to eat beans.

It's a popular meal and you may enjoy it a lot in many countries but the typical Nigerian beans porridge is exactly what you need.

While they complained and groaned over their plate of beans, I happily ate mine.

We had three different methods of cooking beans then, the plain beans porridge, the beans and yam and the beans and plantain porridge.

A couple of months ago, a friend taught me a new method. learn how to cook beans and plantain porridge. it is a very delicious, healthy and nutricious food for the family. it is easy and fast to prepare. don't fail.

Beans popularly known as Ewa among the yorubas is a source of Protein and Fibre.

Beans is enjoyed in different ways, Ewa Aganyin (Mashed Beans and Sauce), as a Porridge or as a side dish to accompany Rice, Yam etc and can be made in different ways.

Beans and ripe plantain porridge step by step

  1. Wash your beans and put in a clean pot, add water and boil for like 20 minutes.

  2. Bring down your beans and drain out the water and wash it again. Put it in a clean pot add appropriate water to it and cook it.

  3. Take your ripe plantain and wash it then peel out the skin and cut it round and put it in a bowl.

  4. Check on your beans and when its tender add your diced onions allow it to cook for 20 minutes.

  5. By now the water is getting dry a bit. Add in your salt, seasoning, diced onions and pepper to it…

  6. After 10 minutes add in your palm oil and cover the pot allow it to cook for like 5 minutes…

  7. Then stir the beans.. If you noticed i didnt stir all this while its cause i don't want the beans seed to get mashed. Enjoy your meal.

When made into a Porridge/Pottage, It can be had with Garri, Plantain, Yam and so on.

When the beans porridge is soft, add the onions, crayfish (if using it), pepper and seasoning.

Note: To get the most out of beans, it is best to cook it with one of the following: sweet yam, ripe/unripe plantain, sweet potatoes or baby corn.
