This Moong Dal Idli is a no-rice, Protein-rich Idli variety. Out of all lentils Moong Dal is rich in protein and is very healthy for even babies.

Most people try making idlis at home but sometimes it fails.

The result is hard idilis which do not fluff up.

This could be because the batter does not ferment properly or the proportions of the ingredients are wrong.  You cannot go wrong with Moong Dal Idli because the proportion is equal parts of rice and equal part of moong dal with a.

Ingredients of Moong Dal Idli

  1. It’s 1 bowl of Moong Daal (soaked and grinded coarsely).

  2. It’s 1/4 cup of Curd.

  3. Prepare 1/2 tsp of Mustard seeds.

  4. Prepare 2 tbsp of Carrot chopped nicely.

  5. You need 2 tbsp of Capsicum chopped.

  6. Prepare 2 tbsp of Peas.

  7. You need 2 tbsp of Cauliflower grated.

  8. It’s 2 of " Ginger.

  9. Prepare 2 tbsp of Coriander leaves chopped.

  10. You need To taste of Salt.

  11. Prepare 2 tbsp of Cooking Oil.

The accompaniment for this is a "No Dal".

Sometimes I make the rava idli and on days when we are in the mood to eat sanna (Mangalorean/Goan idlies made with batter fermented with yeast) I make those or on rare occasions its the ragi idli that makes its appearance.

Moong Dal Idli instructions

  1. Soak moong Dal for one hour. Drain the water after one hour and coarsely grind by adding curd. Transfer it in a mixing bowl..

  2. Chop all vegetables in small pieces..

  3. Heat oil in a karahi. Add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds splutter put finely chopped vegetables and grated ginger. And stir well till done..

  4. Now mix all the vegetables in moong Dal paste. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well..

  5. Brush idli mould with cooking Oil..

  6. Heat water in cooker..

  7. Now add eno fruit salt sachet in the mixture and stir well. Put one spoon full of batter in teach idli mould. Put this idli stand in the cooker in water is heated..

  8. Place the lid. Remove whistle from the lid. Steam for 12 minutes..

  9. Switch off the flame after 12 minutes. Wait for 20 minutes. Open the lid and remove the idli from mould with the help of knife..

  10. Serve hot with sauce or green chutney..
