Soak the gram for an hour or two or overnight. Grind the shallots, dry red chilli and coriander seeds to a coarse paste and keep aside..
-
Now grind the green gram. After one pulse, add the ground masala in step 2 along with salt and turmeric. Sprinkle very less water. The batter should be fluffy and thick enough to get spread with hands..

- Traditionally it is spread on a greased banana leaf into one inch thick circle and steamed for 5-10 minutes. But as I didnt get them, have steamed the whole batter at one go in a greased plate and steamed it for 15-20 minutes or until done..

Now take it out and keep aside to cool. Cut into small cubes.Heat a pan with coconut oil and spluter mustard, dry red chilli and curry leaves. Add a pinch of asafoetida and add all the steamed green gram cubes and fry for few minutes. Done !.
