Dal karela. Daal karela -Bitter gourd cooked with bengal gram and spices. Daal Karela is a healthy delicious easy recipe. Sliced bitter gourd is cooked with soaked and cooked chana daal.

This is a typical Pakistani dish.

I always liked dal, but not karela (bitter gourd) until now or should I say till I tried this dish from this quaint little restaurant in Dubai.

When I had it the first time, I was blown away as you really cannot taste the bitterness from the karela.

You can have Dal karela using 7 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Ingredients of Dal karela

  1. Prepare 100 gms of Bengal gram / chana dal -.

  2. It’s 2 of Bitter gourd / karela -.

  3. You need 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder -.

  4. You need 2 of Chopped tomato -.

  5. It’s 1 of Chopped green chili -.

  6. It’s to taste of Salt -.

  7. You need 4 tbsp of Oil -.

The bitter gourd is stuffed with its peels, bengal gram and some spices.

It is an easy and simple dish.

Dal karela instructions

  1. Soak chana dal / bengal gram for half an hour..

  2. Add turmeric powder and 1 cup of water and pressure cook for 10 mins.

  3. Chop bitter gourd / karela in a round shape and soak in the salted water for half an hour..

  4. Strain and deep fry the bitter gourd / karela..

  5. Heat oil in a pan..

  6. Add tomato,salt,green chili and turmeric powder and cook till tender..

  7. Add boiled chana dal / bengal gram and some water and mix well..

  8. Cook for the mins in a medium flame..

  9. Serve hot with chapati..

You can serve this mouthwatering sabzi with chapati or paratha.
