Chana doce. This Chana Doce is a Goan sweet served at Christmas time, weddings and special occasions. It is made with chana dal and coconut and mildly flavored with cardamom. There are heaps of Indian sweets that use some form of chickpeas as a base, like these Besan Laddoos or even these sweet flatbreads called Puran Poli.

Ingredients of Chana doce

  1. It’s 1/2 cup of chana dal.

  2. It’s 1/2 cup of sugar.

  3. It’s 1/2 of grated coconut.

  4. Prepare 1 tsp of cardamom powder.

  5. It’s 1 tbsp of ghee.

Now since Christmas is coming up, I thought of preparing this lovely sweet called, Channa doce or doss.

This is Goan Christmas Delicacy, prepared in almost all the Christian houses.

Very simple to prepare, only you require little bit patience for it because it takes some time to cook and dry.

More dry it becomes, you get more harder doce which lasts longer.

Chana doce instructions

  1. Soak chana dal for 2hrs and prseeure cook in a low flame till 4 whistle.

  2. Grind grated coconut using little water… grind boiled chana dal without water.

  3. In a kadhai add coconut paste, chana dal paste and sugar mix well.

  4. Keep stiring till water absorbs then add cardamom powder and ghee and cook and keep stiring till it leaves its sides.. once done switch off the flame…

  5. In a greased pan transfer the chana dal and flatten it let it cool then cut into pieces and serve…

I have made little softer doce.

Channa Doss or Doce is a Goan sweet that requires very few ingredients but lot of patience and tremendous amount of stirring.

Its fairly easy to make and the end result is one of the simplist sweets that still ends up getting consumed too soon.

Prior to starting let we warn you that its a tough one, family support is a boon when it comes to.

Doce is an integral part of the Christmas goodie platter and it requires intense stirring!
