Black Chana Soup. Black/ kala Chana aka black gram is very high in protein and serves a nutritional meal. Black Chana Soup is a great source of protein and fiber. So try this out now and feel refreshed!!

Blach chana is also known as kala chana,black chickpeas,kadala etcโ€ฆ It is very rich in protein,folates,carbohydrates and iron.

My mom used to prepare this soup when we were kids.

So I have a deep sentiment to this soup ๐Ÿ™‚.

Ingredients of Black Chana Soup

  1. Prepare 4 tbsp of Black chana.

  2. It’s 1 of tomato.

  3. Prepare 1 inch of piece ginger.

  4. You need 2 tbsp of corn flour.

  5. It’s 2 tbsp of butter.

  6. It’s 2 tbsp of cream.

  7. You need 4 of garlic cloves.

  8. It’s 2 of Cloves(loung).

  9. Prepare 1 inch of piece cinnamom.

  10. It’s 6 pieces of black pepper.

  11. It’s To taste of salt.

  12. Prepare 3 bowls of water.

Kala chana contains rich. "Kala Chana Soup", it is known as Pallah in Patiala (Punjab).

Now days in some restaurants it is served as "Chane ka shorba".

I had this first time at my in-laws place in Patiala as this soup is a specialty of Patiala and this is made using the boiled water of Black chickpeas (Kala Chana) and served with few drops of lemon juice, fresh chopped onion and coriander along with some boiled.

Low glycemic index makes it a healthy option for diabetic patients.

Black Chana Soup step by step

  1. Wash and Soak black chana for 4 hours..

  2. Pressure cook black chana, tomato, ginger, garlic, loung, cinnamom and black pepper in a pressure cooker for 10 minutes after first whistle. Use two bowl of water for boiling. Let pressure releases automatically..

  3. Now grind this mixture in a grinder..

  4. In a bowl add 2 tb spoon corn flour and make a fine paste by adding 2 tb spoon water..

  5. In a separate pan heat 1 spoon butter. Add grinded mixture. Cook for 2 minutes. Now Add corn flour mixture slowly and stirring gently to avoid forming of lumps. Add 1 bowl of water and salt to taste and cook till it turns thick. Switch off the flame..

  6. Serve hot garnished with cream..

I made the Kala Chana Soup from the left over water after I boiled the chana for kanjak.

Didn't feel like throwing the water as we use dry chana for the pooja.

Heat the oil in a soup pot over medium heat and brown the bones well.

Add the onion, carrot, celery and garlic.

Add the tomatoes, bay leaf, thyme, drained chickpeas and wine, and add enough water to cover by about an inch.
