Easiest Way to Love at dinner AKKARAVADISAL (SWEET MILK PONGAL) Delicious, fresh and tasty.

AKKARAVADISAL (SWEET MILK PONGAL). Akkaravadisal is sweet dish similar to sakkarai pongal but prepared with rice, jaggery and milk. The rice is cooked in milk. This is a typical Tamil Brahmin recipe (Iyengar recipe) and also my favorite dessert.

It is cooked in milk and garnished with saffron.

It is very rich and creamy.

It tastes much better than the regular sakkarai Pongal.

  3. Now transfer it in another vessel, add 1.5 cup of milk in it..

  4. Make sure that milk - rice dal mixture should only be half of the vessel to avoid boiling milk overflowing, also put small dish or bowl in it while pressure cook it..

  5. Now place this vessel in cooker and pressure cook it for 5 whistles on medium flame..

  6. Once pressure releases, take out dish from vessel & mash it with ladle..

  7. Now add jaggery syrup and remaining milk, mix well & cook for 5 minutes on low flame..

  8. Now add 1 tbsp ghee, cardamom powder, mix well and simmer for 5 minutes. Now it starts thickening like pudding..

  10. Garnish with cashew & serve hot. Can drizzle ghee at the time of serving. You can add edible camphor too..

Akkaravadisal recipe - A traditional iyengar recipe of milk sweet pongal where the rice and dal is cooked entirely in milk and generous amount of ghee and sweetener.

Its worth it, I tell you.

Its simple to make, almost like the regular Sakkarai Pongal (Sweet Pongal).

The only difference, albeit very minute, is the amount of milk.

Traditionally in temples they cook akkaravadisal in a bronze pot the one we use for making sweet pongal…Though it takes time the taste is just awesome…If you have bronze pot and time in hand then you can try with that :).
