Recipe: Eating on a Dime Bengali luchi r aloo dum Delicious, fresh and tasty.

Bengali luchi r aloo dum. Luchi and aloo dum is the quintessential Bengali food for breakfast, lunch and snacks. On all festive occasions when Bengalis are prohibited from eating rice, they eat luchi or poori. One of the famous Bengali main dishes, Luchi Aloor Dum is an easy recipe that you can make for your loved ones in breakfast.

This delicacy is a Bengali version of poori and dum aloo.

In Bengali cuisine, the poori is generally made out of maida.

The dum aloo is prepared by a unique method with special bengali garam masala, which adds to the flavour of the dish.

You can have Bengali luchi r aloo dum using 20 ingredients and 9 steps. Here is how you cook it.

Ingredients of Bengali luchi r aloo dum

  1. Prepare of For Luchi…

  2. Prepare 1 cup of all purposes flour.

  3. It’s 1 teaspoon of salt.

  4. It’s 1 teaspoon of sugar.

  5. You need 2 tablespoons of refined oil.

  6. You need 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.

  7. It’s of For ALOO DUM…..

  8. Prepare 400 gm of baby potato.

  9. You need 3 of medium sized tomato puree.

  10. You need 1 of large onion chopped.

  11. It’s 1 teaspoon of garlic and ginger paste.

  12. It’s 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder.

  13. You need 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder.

  14. It’s 1 teaspoon of cumin powder.

  15. Prepare 1 teaspoon of coriander powder.

  16. It’s 1 teaspoon of garam masala powder.

  17. It’s to taste of Salt.

  18. Prepare 1 teaspoon of sugar.

  19. Prepare 1 teaspoon of ghee.

  20. Prepare 1 tablespoons of mustard oil.

When I had posted the luchi recipe, some of you had asked me to post the Bengali style dum aloor recipe.

Luchi and aloo dum have become a fortnightly breakfast at home. so I make the Bengali aloo dum in two ways. here is the onion-tomato version.

There is another variation made with yogurt which I will also post.

Add oil to a pan, stir fry the paste, add salt, the potatoes, add peas.

Bengali luchi r aloo dum step by step

  1. For LUCHI…….

  2. Knead the flour with the water, oil, salt and make a soft dough and set aside minimum 30 minutes..

  3. Now divided the dough into small balls and roll each one into round flat shapes and fry in hot oil..

  4. Boil the potato with salt. After they are boiled peel them and prick some holes with a fork..

  5. Heat ghee and oil in a pan add chopped onions. When onions are little brown add ginger and garlic paste and fry for a minutes..

  6. Add the powder spices and little water and fry till oil comes out..

  7. Add tomato puree and fry till oil comes out add potatoes and fry for some time then add water and bring it to boil..

  8. Remove from the heat when the gravy become thick..

  9. Garnish with kasuri methi and serve with fluffy LUCHI.

Add a cup of water and boil till you get a dry Aloor Dum.

Now, make small balls of the dough, roll them into Luchi and deep fry.

The Bengali Aloo Dum Recipe is a delicious recipe of potatoes that are simmered in spicy tomato onion garlic and a yogurt gravy.

Dum is a process of slow cooking on low heat where we cook.

The luchi there doesn't come with aloo dum (dum aloo), but it does comes with another traditional accompaniment, cholar dal (lightly spiced lentil curry with finely, shredded coconut).
